may not be everyone's cup of tea but this Aria semi-hollow is only at $1 right now...

Not a set neck but everything else about it is really cool. Look at the pickups! I'm guessing early to mid 70s.

Sold for $150, that seems like a steal of a deal.

I didn't want to start a whole new thread. . . but seriously, " some one drilled a bunch of holes on the face and the back...to release the demons I guess." Wtf?

At first I thought maybe some numbskull had added extra knobs or switches, but the holes actually go through the back of the guitar! What the hell for? Some trigger-happy drill toting retard's idea of fun?

ok, I went to see The Dirtbombs last night and the opening band was this local band Thee Emergency. The guitarist had this exact same guitar, except it was branded as a Univox. So that's three different brands I've seen this guitar labeled as. Oh, and it sounded fucking gnarly by the way.

oh and also, the only difference I've noticed in all these guitars is the bridge. That Aria has an acoustic style bridge, the Epiphone has what looks like a Tune-O-Matic and the Univox had what looked like a Mustang bridge. otherwise they all look the same. Same unique pickups. same bigsby knock-off with the piece of wood on it. same 335 shape with slightly pointy horns. all have a B+B bolt-on neck.

univox.org wrote:Univox guitars were built by the Matsumoko guitar factory in Japan, which were OEM suppliers to Aria, Westbury, Westone, Epiphone, Fender Japan and several other brands at the time. In 1988, a disastrous fire shut Matsumoko down for good, at which point, most of the other brands went to Korea's Samick Musical Instruments to continue production. Of course, Univox was already defunct.

Wait, stop talking about guitars that you've seen on ebay. We should all be talking about how all guitars are essentially the same, and feeling bad about the guitar fetishism that draws us to these auctions.

or something.

I know, seriously.

so I like looking at guitars on ebay... is that so wrong??

not to drag the other thread into this one (oh well, it's already been done anyway), but maybe some of us derive happiness from playing lots of different guitars and finding new sounds and subtle variations. If that makes one a "hobbyist" so be it. and the other thing is, no one can tell you how to make art. you have to do it your own fucking way. if your thing is messing about with a bunch of different guitars, no one should really be able to tell you otherwise.
