humbucker hate

Post by dots »

it's really getting out of control here, fellas. single coils, p90's, and all the non-bucking rails are awesome, but a lot of splendid music has been written and performed with these dual-coil lovelies. they're versatile, varied, and just plain awesome in the right hands. STOP THE HAET.

'bucker supporters, UNITE!

i always felt that if i had money to throw out the window i'd want aleast one of each, p90's setup guitar, humbucker guitar, filtertron guitar, lipstick guitar, single coil guitar etc then i figure it's just greed and a guitar is a guitar, if your hands have the magick it'll sound good eitherway.

yes hurb, i totally want aids

I've just gotten back into them because they sound better with a band to my ear (midrange and whatnot). I'm still debating putting HOT RAILZ in my mustang.

With my 1 bucker loaded Strat I'm starting to turn. Though I will always be a single coil guy I can see me having fun once it is finished.

I always forgetting my Tele Custom has a humbucker.

I'm humbuckers all the way and have been for the best part of 18 years, but singles have there place and P90s in a LP Junior are awesome.
Personally i find them less troublesome, they have more bass and midrange, they are noiseless in operation, they offer more sonic possibilities, you can use split coil options and even get close to a single coil sound if you roll the volume down low.
A good quality PAF on a slab of mahogany is pretty hard to beat. My favourates are SD Pearly Gates as an all rounder, for high gain purposes i like EMG 81's.
Like Duo said, every single coil guitar i have taken to rehearsal has not got the sound needed. No low end. I suppose they would be okay if you play like early the Edge where everything is based around a D chord up and down the neck.

all of these sounds have their place. BUCKER-CISM MUST END.

but yeah, i agree, fran. humbuckers give some great options like tapping and splitting coils. after i've finally gotten myself a tele (or before maybe), ima pick up another hh jag to hot-rod with some super hot duncans or summit.

I like both, p90s too.

I'm definately on the single coil side of things but the jazzy HH is delicious, and I much prefer the sound of a neck humbucker to a single.

The singles over buckers debate is like debating shovels are better than hammers.
Sometimes you need a hammer and you won't get much done if you stick to your shovel.

You can hammer with a shovel.

You can't shovel with a hammer.

You can hammer BADLY with a shovel.

You can however, shovel like a pro and hammer like a pro, if you choose the right tool.

That's my point.

absolutely. that was the upgrade i ever made when i slapped a couple in my hh jag. technically, p90's are single coils, but they are definitely their own beast.

Aye I was just sayin'.

p90s were a good upgrade for me too, chucked one in my artcore and it brought it to life, it still had the same grunt as before but with a bit more midrange and highs.

Speaking of humbuckers I'm gonna change out the super distortion in the jazzy hh, it's just not doing it for me.

What the hell guitar is that? Is that the Jazzmaster HH I've seen on youtube with the guy playing it through an Ampeg VT-22? I've got a VT-22 as well, and I play this through it:
