i have a strat with Gimour EMGs and that thing sounds amazing clean. They give an almost acoustic sound. I'd totally dew a floyd rose.

<3 Humbuckers. Especially Wide Rangers, but I do love my single coils way more.

In general I like singles better. What rubs me wrong is single coil hate. Especially people who play "aggressive loud music" and "need humbuckers" which is balderdash.

I have always used singles for everything, and never been disappointed. Also never interested ina humbucker until I played the tele deluxe. I liked it a lot because the pickups sounded like JAzzmaster PUs but looked 10 times cooler.

i want a humbucker (or p-90, still deciding) on the bridge of really bad strat copy (i'm removing everything else, just a pickup a vol an tone control). I want one with a good clean sound, but that sounds goo with gain too (mid and high). Any suggestions?
I like the sound of the fender wide range pickup by the way

Oddly enough I use my humbuckers for mid - low gain stuff and my singles usually get the MEGA FUZZ treatment.

Singles sound better when you want to make a massive racket in my opinion.

No. You cant say that, EMGs are shit coz metal bands use them. Period. Floyd Roses are shit as well, they epitomise everything in music that is shit like improvisation, Tom Morello, staying in tune and er... metal.

Gimour sounds like the name of a character in Dark Crystal.

Never heard how single coil EMGs sound...Are they active singles? Every active pup (that I've heard) sounds good for metal, I think they sound pretty crappy for most other genres. I don't liek floyds because apparently they're a pain in the ass to change strings with, unless you have patience (something I don't have much of).

On topic, i really like humbuckers, I don't liek the buzzing I get when I play my music through singles, but when I play clean I do like the way singles sound...They deffinitely are more expressive....Humbuckers don't sound too bad (imo) clean, and when they have covers over them they sound pretty good clean, alot smoother and good for barre chords (imo).

never played with a single coil sized humbucker, but from what I've read online about them they're louder than single coils, they don't buzz with lots of distortion, but they have the punch/twang that most single coils have.

fran is a noob.

That's what Fran does these days. He gets all precious and cries about people not liking floyd roses and stuff.

Like I told him in person, I respect his right to do whatever he wants, he is Fran after all. but this victim crap is getting OOOOLLLLD.

Saying you need a Floyd Rose to stay it tune is just retarded.

I did'nt say you need a Floyd to stay in tune, i said they stay in tune. I dont know what you mean about the 'victim' thing, i dont care if people dislike what i like and in some cases it is a compliment. Like i said to you at the weekend, it find it disappointing that people close themselves off from something that offers so many sonic possibilities just beacause of common association. Its dumb. Its like saying i'm not ever using delay coz i hate the edge and all them bands that use delay.
There is no difference in me going on about tremolo systems or helping people with wiring in a pick up, i'm just promoting whats good or usefull.
So STFU ya' n00bz.

single coils are undeniably versatile and I agree that I can't stand that people "need" humbuckers to get an aggressive sound, which makes no fucking sense to me whatsoever, but fran is completely right on this point. saying "only these things are cool to play, anything else and you're gay" is just closed minded.

It's a bit fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure I had a dream last night where Mike told me that he'd quit their band because they weren't brtual enough and was looking to start a speed metal band
