as some of you might have seen/read/heard (over at OSG), i might have done the dumbest deal ever (or not), trading my beloved beater '73 Les Paul Deluxe for a beat and hacked-up '62 Jaguar thing. should be here any day now... expect lotsa pics soon!
the slab-board neck is in GREAT shape and has 2 62 penciled onto the neck butt - sorry, the serial no. plate's missing
so this would be one of the earliest jags of all, right?
anyone here knows when they started coming out exactly?
according to jim shine, jaguars weren't put into full production until march '62. yours would be a pre-production model, probably a dealer show model or for a promo or something.
I can't believe you actually did that deal. The Jag is next to worthless, both as a collector and a player compared to your Les Paul Deluxe. Normally I'd hold my tongue (lol) but that deal was just a big mistake.
Timhulio's 5th dumb post on OSG wrote:Looking at how gorgeous the LP Deluxe is (repair or no) I think you've really got to walk away on this one. The jag is a basket case parts build, of which the neck is the only half decent feature. A vintage jaguar isn't always a vintage jaguar. This one is mostly firewood.
I think it's a cool project... whether it was the right thing to do or not... I say you'll probably take more enjoyment from it.
There's no need to be so precious as you would with an untouched vintage and you can make some mods to you liking without feeling the guilt... You only live once... enjoy the journey...
I had one of those les pauls for a while and was really unsatisfied by it.

So do you think it would be better for the readers of this board if he just kept his other questions on offset too, since he posted other things there already, so then you'd have no dialogue about it to read on this board at all??

The offset thread is the equivalent of going for a night out with your good friends having a meal a few drinks all night, and then this thread is like the day after passing your not so good friends in the street and telling them about it.
so in answer to your question. Yeah, I don't want offset.com's sloppy seconds about this guitar.
Is there a lot of people have started posting on here who have been lurking here for ages, and are members of offset?
Not that anybody's not welcome or anything, the more the merrier and all that. It's just that there seems to be a while lot of new people who have started posting and have said that they've been lurking. Plus, there's a lot of new people keep talking about offset.
I just did a search on the word "offset" here and got 195 matches. granted a good number of them may be referring to the generic body style, but my guess is references to that other forum are well represented.
My guess is if you could make people raise their hands to the question "who, at least occasionally, reads both forums", after giving some truth serum or something, you'd get a pretty good chunk of your membership with hands up.
Myself, I follow a number of online forums, based on my interests, not just one. And I post where I think it makes the most sense, to me. I imagine a lot of people do likewise. If there was some "do not compete" or exclusivity clause in the sign-up rules here, or elsewhere, probably a lot of people missed that.
I've got 2 short-scale offsets, one purchased quite recently.. If someone here posts something and I feel I have something to contribute, I'll respond here. If someone there does,I'll post there. If someone on another forum posts something relevant, and I see it, I'll post there as well. I'm up for a good chat wherever I find it. But that's not just one place.

There are a lot of people here that post on offset and at our older site jag-stang.com. I don' think that anyone should feel bad about that or anything, there should be no shame in it, and certainly no need for a truth serum. A lot of the main faces around here post on these sites, so I don't think it's a problem.
It's just something I noticed, that there are a lot of new posters (great) and a lot of them mention offset (neither bad nor great, more of a non issue).
My post wasn't meant as a call to start some sort of a purge or anything, like.
