Those guitars were $150 new, and quite hit and miss. I regularly see them in local shops for under $100 used.

That's no bargain imo. They were pretty cool for the switching features in a cheap guitar, but that was about it for me.

The neck on mine is good, too.

I like it, because it's a big chunky tele neck. It's much bigger than anything else I have. I have it set up with twelves or thirteens (I can't remember) and fairly high action. When I play it for any length of time, it's like high-altitude training or something. I go to any other guitar and find that everythign is so much easier.

I've been getting shit recently because I've just been playing the Jag-stang.

I actually just got one of these on a trade for my old Ipod. I love it so far, especially the neck. I'm gonna mod the daylights out of it. Look for a new thread soon with pics.

abbadeet, no. he said he 'handpicked' the ones he bought, based on 'neck quality.' so i assumed anyone who buys 5 squier 51's in the same color at the same time, has to know what he's looking for. one man's quality is another mans something or other.

By the time you got new pickups and stuff to make it not sound like ass, you've sunk another 100 bucks.

I hope not. Im only planning on throwing a GFS pat in the bridge and a Rail in the neck.

I used to feel that way, and I just ended up with too many cheap guitars to play that still looked and felt like cheap guitars even if they sounded or played alright. I'm not against the idea of 51 projects, but once I had the itch to make a project out of one, I went to GC where they were having a sale on black ones brand new for $99, all but one had a terrible neck with horrible fret edges, and by then I was so put off by the cheapness I decided not to go for it. I just do not consider them the holy grail of a guitar modder's dream that some do. You can "select" necks from just about any cheap guitar company.

I wasn't saying they are a holy grail or anything of the sort...I was just happy to get one for my old iPod...

Sorry if that came across as too negative. I was just saying that they're not for me, and believe me, there are plenty of people who do think of these guitars as a modder's dream, and some of them are correct.
