modifying MIM jazz bass

Post by Billy3000 »

About a month ago I bought a used MIM jazz bass on craigslist. I never took before pictures of it, but it's basically just a regular MIM jazz bass in midnight wine like this:

After playing my p-bass at shows for a couple months, and then having to borrow a jazz bass from another band at one of our shows because the strap pins stripped the holes and ripped out of my p bass... I decided that I love the feel of a jazz bass but the sound of a p-bass more. So I bought this jazz bass to modify the fuck out of it. So I got this stuff:

I got the pickguard in black cause I think that will look way better with the midnight wine than the white pickguard does.

And if I'm ever down in atlanta again I'll probably see if Cowbell can put some block inlays in there for me! I'm going to pick it up today from the guitar tech that setup my p-bass and did all the guitars that my band uses. I'm gonna play it at practice tonight and I can't wait to hear how it sounds!

That's a pretty neat idea. Post pictures when you get it back!

It sounds fucking amazing!!!! So powerful! Just playing it unplugged the badass bridge made a HUGE difference! I definitely recommend that everyone with an MIM bass get a badass bridge for it! The pickups sound amazing, very high output, but can be dialed however you want on your amp, I like a lot of power and punch and drive in my bass sound, so I'm definitely able to get that, but I can turn it down a bit to get a pretty nice clean bass sound that's still powerful at the same time. This is now my favorite sounding bass!

Yea the black really brings out the awesomeness of the wine red. I never really liked wine red til I saw a pictur of a jazz bass in wine red with black pickguard.

That is a beauty, all right. I bet it romps now. Good mods.

I have always wanted a bass bridge cover ever since I was a kid and saw this picture. I didn't know what the hell all that stuff was for, but I liked teh chrome.
