It sure would. But I really dig the black Jaguar pickup covers. I've already got the white robroes on my black 'guarded mustang, so I'm covered in that area.

I had been having fantasies since the summer of getting an all black with matching headstock Jaguar after drooling over the Japanese Jaguar HH. But the humbuckers were of no interest, so I was planning on modding an HH to single coil specs, complete with black pickguard and covers. By sheer luck, Handen put this beauty up for sale in the classifieds a couple of weeks ago, and I snapped it up. I couldn't resist.

By the way, the pickups sound amazing. The Antiquity in the neck has tone to die for, and the hot jag in the bridge is perfect for Teh Rawkz.

I know, the Antiquity is probably the most astonishing pickup I've ever had in any guitar.

I know, the Antiquity is probably the most astonishing pickup I've ever had in any guitar.

I expected it to sound good, but I figured that a lot of the hype about the Antiquities was hyperbole. Not so, it's really as good as people claim. Such an incredibly rich sound.

Are the pickguard and/or pickup covers painted or are they just black plastic?

Did that thing start out life as a Jag HH?

This one is a standard late 90's Japanese Jaguar, not an HH. It originally had white pickup covers and a red tort guard, but Handen had purchased a black pickguard and black plastic pickup covers for it. I'm guessing he got the covers from Guitar Parts Resource, since they're the only place that I've seen that sells them.

Interestingly, the headstock has a standard Jaguar decal with black lettering. I don't know why they didn't use one with the gold or white lettering instead. In good lighting, you can actually see the black letters that spell "Jaguar" because they're a slightly different shade of black, but I don't think my camera could pick this up.

It has an SD Antiquity 2 in the neck, and an SD Hot for Jaguar in the bridge. Sounds ace.

I'd be tempted to stain the fretboard darker. Use some ebony woodstain or something like that. I like Mike's idea of white robroes but I can see why you'd stick with the black. It definitely looks better like it is than with a red pickguard.

actually, ebony with no inlay would be pretty cool.

I still want this. I had thoughts of making my own thundercats baritone based on it, but find a bass neck with binding and no inlay would not be easy.

they're a tad pricey, but www.usacustomguitars.com does custom baritone conversion necks as well as bass vi necks.
