mustang trem
Hi all,
I´m new to the board, although I´ve been reading for some time now.
I´d like to ask a question, and please pardon me if it´s dumb or obvious. I´ve recently switched from a .9 strings to .11´s on my 65 RI mustang and got it set up at the local guitar store. The guitar used to keep in tune like nobody's business, but since changing string gauge I´ve only had to do as much as look at the trem to detune it. The slots on the nut have been widened, but still the trem doesn´t seem to return to correct pitch. Its either detuned lower or even higher. How can I set up my trem decently (provided that the problem lies with the trem) ? I know virtually nothing about setting up, so excuse me if this is too facile.
Thanks in advance!

Lower the tube bit on the trem down. the lower down the more tension to pull the strings back to pitch.

I reckon you do this via the holes on top next to the hole for the whammy bar itself? What tool do you stick in these holes to lower lipstick tube? Sorry for asking, thanks for the help so far!Hurb wrote:Lower the tube bit on the trem down. the lower down the more tension to pull the strings back to pitch.
You need a little allen key I dunno if they are called a hex wrench or something in the states.jbruin wrote:I reckon you do this via the holes on top next to the hole for the whammy bar itself? Cool, make sure it's the right size you don't wanna strip the head. post pictures of the guitar too.

Good stuff. make sure to stretch the strings too, I hardly need to do this with my jags/jazzmaster but for the mustang trem I feel it needs it.
Oh and welcome to the forum.

Anyhow, thanks for the help! The difference was noticeable after just slightly adjusting the tailpiece. It's almost up against the body now with just enough space for the low E.
And sideways
And the whole picture, including shoddy novelty amp (not my doing).
AWESOME!! Glad we could help.
beautiful mustang too. Keep it away from the radiator though

do want leopard amp !
