I bought a mustang :)!!

Post by ultraviolence »

Yeah, I may end up paying an extra 100$ cause I don't wanna wait for another store to get one in.
It's a dakota red mustang... I'd rather get the red then blue (pretty much the one that every store gets)...Less people have the red, and it's just as nice as the blue.

Things I should look for are chips/scratches on the finish, make sure no parts are loose, and I should shake the guitar to hear for any rattling on the inside...also make sure the neck is straight?
What else?
Can't waittttttt, I also may get a big muff and small clone with it :)

EDIT : Yay, finally got a mustang :) Dakota red, bargained the price down to 850$ taxes Included, from 1,000$ taxes included.
Really great guitar, i had band practice today as well, so she got a nice work out today :)

you already made this post a month ago.

im glad you are excited about the guitar, but i already answered your question.
you should just bump up your old post. not start a new one with the same questions if you still have the same questions after i answered your questions.

anyways, is there a link that someone has, or can someone just tell me what positions do what....right now I'm just going by what I like, which is most positions, except for some when the volume gets cut in half.

Center on either switch is off for that respective pickup. Either way is on for that pickup and if you have both switches going the same direction they should both be on normal. If you have both inside or both outside, then it's reverse phase or something like that that gives you the thin sound.

you mean the pick-up switch positions?

o = switch

they are on-off-on switches. if they are in the middle the pickup will not make noise.

o-- -o- and --o -o- = bridge p-up only. -o- --o and -o- o-- = neck p-up only

to get them out of phase then the switches have to be "going opposite directions" like this o-- --o or --o o--

To tidy that up a bit

(from the view when playing and you look down to the guitar)

Code: Select all

Neck Only
O - - - O -
- - O - O -

Bridge Only
- O - - - O
- O - O - -

Both (in phase)
- - O - - O
O - - O - -

Both (Out of phase)
- - O O - -
O - - - - O
You need two signals for phase to be an issue (if you have only one signal, as in only one pickup, there is nothing for it to be out of phase with) so it doesn't matter which way you push the switch to get an 'on' signal if you're using only one pickup. There's no difference at all between the two options for each position. It looks more complicated than it is. Really the things to remember are

- Middle on either switch is off
- Opposite direction is out of phase
- Same direction is in phase

alright, so the guitar keeps in tune well...even when i use the trem, but the only thing is that the guy at the store told me the trem bar didn't screw in like a strats trem, but you just slide it in...the problem i have with that is it can easily fall out when I am playing standing up...anyway to make it not fall out?

There should be a little grub screw you can tighten into the arm from the side to grip it a bit tighter. Have a close look near the hole you put the reverb handle in.

There is a grub screw on the bottom of the cigar tailpiece that holds the bar in place.
