probably, i haven't really tried but i think i prefer playing without it anyway. sometimes it pushes against the strings if i lean my hand on the bridge. it was just for decoration really, it looks nice when the guitar's 'at rest'...James wrote:Can you bend the corners a little, squeeze them with pliers or a vice perhaps? Mine stays on without any problems.

Is removing a mute like circumcising a guitar?Sublimedo wrote:I agree. My green jag looks so naked with the tuneomatic keeping it from getting a nice cover and mute on it. but ah well.Hurb wrote:For me it completes the look of the jaguar. without a mute the jaguar always looks like it's missing something to me.
It's like removing the balls.
I made a video

I am tempted to get dino's other one for my other jag.

does that mean you'd like to sell ?Zaphod wrote:I just couldn't get my mute set up, it just didn't want to reach the strings no matter what I did.
I think they look better without, but if you can actually get some cool sondz out of it then all the power to ya.
How high is your bridge then ? I don't know exactly how these are assembled but sounds kinda odd ?

That sounds cool as shit.
you know how to make a tack piano? you litterally push brass tacks into the felt hammers, where they strike the strings. they were really popular around the turn of the century, everyone has heard them. this is a badass video of a badass playing one:

if i had a jag, and a mute, i would fashion a tackuar, for sure. sure, it wouldnt sound the same, but it would sound bad, and bad is good when you have a switch to turn it on and off, right? im thinking a really harsh gotoh buzz bridge sound. or amybe a more subtle attack effect, like if it set far enough from the strings that they only engage on the attack, but it smooths out as it sustains and decays.
EDIT: oh yeah, and your jag looks awesome regardless of what accessories you accessorize it with. and the video has me convinced that mutes sound cool.
