Ideally, but even silverface champs are going for around £250 'round here.

I looked at some SF vibro-champs, but they were all in shit condition and needed work. This'll do me for now.

It's definately solid state sounding, but for what it is it sounds nice. The drive is quite decent for SS, at the higher settings it's pretty thick and fuzzy.
I wouldn't pass a cheap one up.

Sounds nice!

I was going to suggest the Orange AD5, but its near $500 and might not be the best at clean sounds.. i dunno. Looks cool though:

I looked at these a bit. I'll still probably pick up a valve amp next year, but I'm thinking it'll probably be a tweed deluxe.

Amps are the only thing I actually hate shopping for, so I think I'm done for the next few months.

i like it. tho, i might not if i'd hear it in person.
i noticed that it's pretty loud. no? also, i like the distortion. you can't do metal stuff with it IMO, but to me it sounds nice.

if i can't make any, i won't budge

This just got released - basically a blackface champ with a 10", but it's hand made PTP and $499. A Weber kit would still be cheaper, but this is still really good for the price.

It's really well made, looks ace, and is DEAD QUIET. It's absolutely amazing - there's hardly any "on noise"; even when you crank the distortion, the amp itself is buzz-free.

Sound is quite nice. Bass was a bit too much, so I popped the back panel off and that cleaned it right up. The distortion is fuzzy - kinda like a maestro fuzz tone on some settings. A nice effect, but not an all-the-time sound. Cleans are woody and stout - like a cross between a Vox AC15 and an old Champ. I'll try to record a demo in the next couple days.

Did ever see all the demos I made using this amp?

Pay any more than $250 for a handwired champ and your head is stuck in a jar of mojo.
