It's the guitar that made the Fender USA engineers cry back in '82.

"Everybody came up to inspect them and the guys almost cried, because the Japanese product was so good - it was what we were having a hell of a time trying to do."
Dan Smith, Director of Marketing, Electric Guitars, Fender USA.

These are the ones made by Greco (Fender Japan) right? Prolly be okay, but not worth the hype and inflated prices.

They are aye, as much as any vintage gears is at a ridiculous price. They are still top fucking drawer guitars though, and represent a high point for Squier that they have sort of been forced not to meet ever since. These Squiers were better than the American guitars remember.

I've played a couple and they are amazing. Too bad the market caught on and sent the prices up.

Japanese guitars by and large are very good - I still prefer my MIJ Mustang to my '67 Duo-Sonic.

I saw a 1985 MIJ Fender 50's Strat at my local shop today. It is black with a V shape neck in mint condition,$599.It's nice but not as accurate a reissue as those JV Squiers.

yea, that's what I understand. they were made at the fujigen factory. the early ones used left over greco parts and some american pickups.
