yea, like I said in another thread black+black+maple=sex. it sucks it's so hard to find those pickguards. WD Music has them but they're like extortionist prices.

in the latest issue of spin (the one with M.I.A. on the cover) there is a huge photo splash page where you can see it though.

It's an interesting story. I was thinking about getting a custom guitar built - pretty much equivalent of an Anderson Cobra with a short scale, and we did this to see what it might end up sounding like. At the time (about 1996), we used a 1993 MIM Duo Sonic as the starting point because (and I consulted a prominent vintage dealer on this very question) I didn't want to hack up anything that people were going to consider "vintage"...

That being said, the bottom line it this is a killer guitar. It's strung with 12s and it rings like a bell. I haven't been here long enough to know, but I suppose there is a healthy complement of alt-style people here. Other than liking some of Nels Cline's work with Wilco, I'm pretty much an alt- skeptic, if not an outright alt- denialist.

My wife just got another 1993 MIM Duo Sonic for my seven year old son. And, although that one is really nice (although the bridge pickup is dead) it has some of the intonation issues you would expect with the original Duo Sonic bridge.

In the intervening years, I haven't found a custom builder who would do anything in this short a scale. One of the reasons I joined this site when I found out about it is to ask if there are any custom builders who work in short scale.

Eventually, (meaning if I retire soon enough) I will probably try building my own.

Well, that's a good guitar story.
I personally think it doesn't look good but I'm not the one playing it, so who gives a shit, right?

alt-denialist, eh?
That sounds awfully restrictive to me.
Surely you don't mean to say that you make a point of listening to nothing but bland, overplayed, formulaic pop music.
