Stupid question, in need of serious answer
*hangs head in shame*
Alright so I just broke a string on my mustang earlier today. I have no fucking clue how to string my guitar with the mustangs tuners....I'm used to the style of tuners that are on my jagmaster...how do I do this?
Yeah i know i must seem like a total moron, but i've never seen a guitar with tuners like this, and i have no clue how to string it. If you could link me to a video, or explain it well, that'd be awesome.
thanks...?

sl0t tun0rz?
you trim the string and stick in them thar hole and wind. or you can just wind.
i believe there was some informative literature at the fender site. like cut the string where it's in between the next tuner past the one you want to string up. i can't explain it right, but once you know, it made it super quick to string that shit up.

*nods* makes that every string has about the same amoutn of winding and stuff so it's all .. balanced ? and it's quicker too, i love those slot tuners, my acoustic and hondo don't have them so it's annoying you always have to trim that extra bit of string that sticks out, i don't like strings that stick out from the tuners.Sloan wrote:sl0t tun0rz?

you do let the strings go underneath the bridge then to the tuners right ? so the ball ends of the strings are on the side of the pickups not the back of the bridge.
then you cut the end of the strings to the right length, put the end in the tuner hole on top, then it goes round, twist the tuner and it locks itself in. i looked for pics but couldn't find any.

Vintage keys. For these, you'll want to pre-cut the strings to achieve the proper length and desired amount of winds. Pull the sixth string (tautly, remember) to the fourth key and cut it. Pull the fifth string to the third key and cut it. Pull the fourth string between the second and first keys and cut it. Pull the third string nearly to the top of the headcap and cut it. Pull the second string about a 1/2" (13 mm) past the headcap and cut it. Finally, pull the first string 1 1/2" (38 mm) past the top of the headcap and cut it. Insert into the center hole in the tuning key, bend and crimp to a 90-degree angle, and wind neatly in a downward pattern, being carefull to prevent overlapping of the strings.
That sounds like what I was told--roughly two or three pins past the length you need. I am pretty sure they gave the middle two strings extra because they get bent the most. The thickest strings can only neatly wind about that much length. I used to go generously with the excess but it slobs up on the EA strings. Then fret all the way up and down the string while pulling up on it to stretch them. I can expect to stretch them at least a half note by the time I go end to end. This makes the breaking in process happen much faster.

My technique is to wind the string twice around the post, strech the remainder of the string over the corresponding tuner button and clip where the string meets the top of the tuner button, poke the string trough the hole, keep the sting in place inside the hole with the side of my thumb while adding tension to string, tune and you're done.

I can't be bothered to read what everyone has put because once you get into paragraphs it is already to complicated.
cut string 2 tuners past tuner it is going into.
put string in hole.
bend string down round post of tuner.
hold down.
tune up until taught.
stretch string.
tune up.
done.

This discussion happened before, and prompted one of my favorite tangent shit-storms. If I remember correctly it was what really attracted me to this site.
