Duo Sonic VS. Mustang: The Tonal Variances. Vol. 1

First post! Yay-UHH!

So... What are the most common tonal differences b/w the two? Mustang has a ton more sculpting abilities on the guitar alone. Could you mod a DUO to sound similar to the Stang?

I've recently played a newer mustang... Loved it. I live in a dead town (in regards to gear) so I haven't played any DUO's squire or Fender.

Even though the price isn't THAT different b/w the two, I prefer the lower. Any feedback would be appreciated.

The difference is trem vs hardtail. There are some duos that arent so mustanng like visually, but theyre the same idea tonally.

series/parallel switching, which you can do easily for a duo
and hardtails v trems..

Anyone try the new squire? How are the pups?

Also beside adding the series/ para switches, would I need to add tone pots? Assuming those rollers are pots... On the Stang.

Yea. Mustangs have rollers (located on the top if the pickguard next to the switches (assuming that's what they're called)) like on Jaguars/Jazzmasters right? I could swear the one I played did.

Them new Squier Duos supposed to be great. I was talking to a guitar rep and he said everyone back at the office had bought one, maybe a bit of a novelty thing discovering Fender did'nt just make Strats and Teles lol but there you go.

Still think the gap between bridge and bridge pickup is stupidly large and ugly.

yeah you're right, and should be a bit slanted too, i wonder why it's so far away from the bridge, would it sound too nasal or something if it were closer ?

but the color and scratchplate and body are everything i LOVE. i think the mustang/duo type body is the prettiest fender body ever made and this one's color scheme almost makes me feel it's edible

they also chose the best matching knobs for this (works best with an anodized pg like the knobs on a p bass) and the switch on the lower horn is sexy. if i would see one secondhand i would defo consider, even if it's righty, but it's about 300eur, it's still cheap and i hear good things about it though...

Because Fender are well lazy and pretty stupid sometimes. The two pickups are identically angled and spaced (between each other, not relative to the bridge) as in an original, BUT they have changed it to 24" scale by moving the bridge back, but leaving the pickups where they were for the 22.5 version, marooned up by the neck.

I'm sure it's a great guitar, but that aspect of it really annoys me.

I wonder how that affects the tone +/-. I'm thinking the best solutin might be to purchase a Duo body and/or neck off eBay for cheap... And just buy parts and pier one together... Although with the wiring and whatnots... I bet that adds up FAST.

Think about Stratocaster pup placement. The closer to the bridge, the more bite and treble.

Does anybody know how they're routed? If it's swimming-pool-style you could just get a new pickgaurd with the bridge pickup hole positioned lower. Presto - cheap and easy (and diy if you've got the pickgaurd making skillz).
