I think playing this thing helps one appreciate it.laterallateral wrote:Well, that's a good guitar story.
I personally think it doesn't look good but I'm not the one playing it, so who gives a shit, right?
Um, no, it doesn't mean that. I tend not to listen to all that much stuff which is on the radio, or even off-radio "pop" music.laterallateral wrote:alt-denialist, eh?
That sounds awfully restrictive to me.
Surely you don't mean to say that you make a point of listening to nothing but bland, overplayed, formulaic pop music.
When I was an infant and toddler (very early 1960s), I listened mostly to the (then new) out jazz. Made my parents despair.
Then I was listening to a "black liberation" format station, so for me there was Motown, then James Brown and Sly Stone, then George Clinton.
Then I listened almost exclusively to jazz until college, (1976-1980) when I joined a Zappa/Little Feat cover band. Many of our opening set tunes were Stones, Beatles, occasionally some Allman Brothers. It was pretty comical - someone would call up some Beatles tune in rehearsal, and I would be hearing it for the first time.
So I have a pretty long history of not listening to pop music.
What I'm listening to on my player these days
Derek Trucks - Songlines (waiting for that new one to come out)
David Lindley and Wally Ingram - Live in Europe!
Eddie Harris - The Best of Eddie Harris
Lowell George - Thanks I'll Eat it Here
Mike Henderson and the Bluebloods - First Blood
Paul Thorn - Mission Temple Fireworks Stand
North Mississippi All Stars - Hill Country Revue
Pearls and Brass - Pearls and Brass (technically some people might have them as some sort of "alt-" but I would disagree)
Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond
Sonia Dada - Lay Down and Love it Live
Royal Fingerbowl - Happy Birthday, Sabo!
Mose Allison - The Best of Mose Allison
Junior Wells - Hoodoo Man Blues
Los Lobos - Colossal Head and This Time
Michael Powers - Onyx Root, Prodigal Son, Live at the Living Room
Scott Henderson - Tore Down House
Chizmo Charles - Up All Night
Brother Stump - Broke
I'm not sure that more than half of this is popular music, despite the best intentions of the artists.
By the way about the YBA-1 in the signature. I played one once that was really great into this Hiwatt style 4x12 cab with Fanes. Very nice.
