fucking jvm

Post by dots »

it shit the bed again. and it did exactly what it did last time. had a great session last friday where it was played for maybe 3 hours max (which is about how much it gets played per week). when finished, i did the appropriate switch to standby and then shut it off about 5 minutes or so after that. no problems, no cutting out, no pops, nothing. . .

plugged it in last night, switched it on, power switch lights up, tubes don't glow. open the fucker up, and it looks like the two 10amp slow-blo fuses have been cooked a bit. chico runs a multimeter on them, and the fuses work, but the board beneath them is kinda charred a bit.

these are the symptoms i had before, though i might replace the fuses just to see. . . i doubt it will make a damn bit of difference, and it is unacceptable for the same problem to happen under these circumstances twice in one year. fuck that.

back to the repair shop i go.

For fuck's sake. The JVM is more or less my dream amp at the minute, and after I graduate, I plan on dropping some moeny on one, but this isn't the first instance I've heard of them being unreliable.

Terrible news. Hope it gets sorted okay.

Hold on, the last time you brought it back, did they fix it or replace it? If it's happened on the same amp twice that's not quite as bad as it happening on two seperate amps, like.

same amp. it's what i get for buying what was likely the first set to come over from the UK to the states. but a $2000 amp shouldn't cause this many problems in less than 2 years. not a big, reputable name like marshall. it's got a great warranty, but that just means in exchange for free labor, i wait incredibly long amounts of time. shit sucks.

i love the tones, but reliability gets an F so far.

the pain is really in the fact that i am carrying around this $2000 behemoth at the expense of my back because of the sound i get from it. . . when there's no sound, the benefits are obviously diminished.

Fuck that overpriced amp. It does have a warranty from Marshall to cover shit like this right?

of course. only problem is every amp repair place has a backlog of broken amps to sift through, so they all charge an "expedite fee" of anywhere from $20 - $50 to push your case to the front of a line that would take several weeks otherwise.

HAET this shit.

AND the only reputable place around here is 45 minutes away, so it will require a special trip to get this taken care of.

AND name for me one amp that does as much as a jvm does, is all tube, sounds as good, and then we'll talk about overpriced. i got a fucking lemon, though. ={

You could buy 4 tube amps and maded a switch box to switch between them?

Its only an overpriced amp because I can't afford it and your having problems with it.

This sucks. What a pain. One of the only perks of living in England and where I do is that the Marshall Factory is a 45 minute drive away. When my old 6100 blew a fuse and needed a spruce up it was very easy to get it sorted.

good god i wish. . . or at least that i new dick about these things enough to at least figure out why. as it is, i don't trust myself to do much else than look.

lol @ stitching 4 amps together. . . amazing thing is you still wouldn't get the same ease and versatility if you did that.

I don't go poking around in Amps if they go wrong, it is way out of my comfort zone at the moment. Something as complex as the JVM always will be.

Been on this forum? Lots of threads about similar issues.

Yours sounds like one guy who said a heater fuse went bad on him, so they replaced the fuse and the mounts.
