ahahahaha. vintage make guitar shaped pieces of piss. i played one of their strats and it was fucking horrendous.
plus any company intentionally named to confuse people is arse, there's no way they called their brand vintage for any reason other than being able to adertise as "REAL VINTAGE GUITARS".

i think with the epiphone stuff, it's very hit or miss. when i got my black les paul custom, i'd played quite a few until i randomly found one that was really amazing. the goldtop was complete luck that it played really well.
eventually i'd love to get something a little closer, maybe a late 70's tokai or something. i've not played the tokai les pauls, but fuck me, their 335's put some of the gibsons to shame.

I don't have time to extensively reply to this right now but listen to fran. The vintage Japanese "lawsuit" copies can be obtained for the same amount as the mid to high-end epiphone and the they're MUCH higher quality. The pickups on my Greco are the best humbuckers I've ever heard in my life.
cogito ergo sum...thing or other...
I'm not a fan of most epiphones I've played. I have a gibson les paul studio, I got it new at a good price through the shop I worked at but you can buy them all day from $500-$800 on ebay used. I love mine. If you can't afford a gibson, go with some older japanese made lp style guitar, or "play" epiphones til you find one you like (I would never buy one online).

I might check them out myself, are they made of MDF with 'paint and grain' finish?timhulio wrote:Vintage are fuckin pissy.
Could be I've suffered some sort of brain clot, but I always liked these smartwood LPs. They've got nice thin bodies, and some sort of mission statement about burning the earths few remaining rainforests. Or something.
I've owned my 58 ri les paul for a while now, and it's a pretty good guitar. These days gibson's prices are pretty unreasonable considering the quality of the guitars ive played recently. I would go with esp or edwards, which is related to esp. Everyone seems to love their edwards les pauls, and it would be nice to have an lp style guitar that you don't constantly have to worry about scratching or getting stolen.
