Jag single coil buzz/hum...
... i know single coils generally are susceptible to amp buzz...
yesterday in rehearsal it seemed pretty bad... it's a CIJ I'm using with SD 1/4 pounder in the bridge, and I've recently swapped the pickguard over for one that doesn't have a foil lining... also I have removed the claws to eliminate microphonic feedback.
What are the ways I could reduce this buzz from the amp from here on in ?
Foil line the guard and pickup routing ?? What would be the process for this ?
What about a noise gate ? Worth it ?
any help would be appreciated...
It was a smallish rehearsal room so wonder if used in larger venue it wouldn't be too bad. Having said this most of the other amps/PA used by others were just as bad really...
thanks

That's true. In a weaker moment I was about to bring an amp back to shop until I tried how it sounds without a TV turned on in the same roomMore Cowbell wrote:IN my experience...Hum is usually caused by other things like a flouresent light, or bad power outlet. Try cutting things off in the room until you locate the main cause of the hum,
The other thing is that you removed the shielded Pickguard for an non shielded one. That was definitely a bad idea. Try to shield your new one with something like this: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics ... _Tape.html
PS my Squier CV Duo Sonic does not hum at all. Should be because of the anodized metal pickguard.

Probably be worse with the lighting. Srsly, single coils FTFL at times.othomas2 wrote:It was a smallish rehearsal room so wonder if used in larger venue it wouldn't be too bad.
do the shielding and rewire it to star earthing (not sure how this is called correctly).
was a massive help for my mustang. today at rehearsal i had less hum/buzz than another guitarist with his humbucked ibanez, and in hum cancellation mode (both pickups in phase) i have absolutely no hum.
i used this:
and did it like this:
aluminium tape is conductive only on one side, so i had to make folded overlapping to cover the stitches - this way it would make a continuous shield.
i had to seal the stitches with insulation tape so they won't fall apart during guitar usage.
it took much time, but it's so much worth it.

yeah, it's ridiculous. but if they do, the noiseless pickups sales will suffer, as well as some of humbuckers and maybe NS-2Fran wrote:You'd think after around 60 years of guitar technology a company like Fender would have solved this problem, i mean, the instruments cost enough.

Lol. Good point. Dont get me wrong here i've been into Jaguars for a long time but the amount of complaint threads about these guitars i've read over the years makes you wonder, it really does. When you buy a new guitar for like around £500 you expect it to be functional at the very minimum. Wax potting/swapping pickups and bridge modifications before its usable is laughable for £500.blacktaxi wrote:yeah, it's ridiculous. but if they do, the noiseless pickups sales will suffer, as well as some of humbuckers and maybe NS-2Fran wrote:You'd think after around 60 years of guitar technology a company like Fender would have solved this problem, i mean, the instruments cost enough.

More people would whine about non vintage correctness that whine about squealy pickups and buzzy bridges. Especially fans of the Jagaur and Jazzmaster, because we're all oddball nerds.Fran wrote:Lol. Big shout out to Fender!! You get my point though? If Squier can vacuum pot pups on a £250 guitar you'd think Fender would make the effort with a £500 guitar? I dont see how it would detract from a vintage reissue sound especially when the pickups sound nothing like vintage pups in the first place. Its just a penny pinching exercise, but i dont understand why seeing as they dont offer an aftermarket pup, or do they own Seymour Duncan?More Cowbell wrote:The Noisless singles in my American Deluxe Tele were quiet as a mouse and roar'd like a T-REX.Fran wrote:You'd think after around 60 years of guitar technology a company like Fender would have solved this problem, i mean, the instruments cost enough.
