My Melody Maker (big porno clips)

these are from the ebay auction, which I won, of course. When I get the mods done, I'll post some of my own.

The mods are as follows:

Image

new white (or maybe tort?) 2 pickup pickguard (it really will need a slider switch hole, wtf wdmusic?)

Image

a kent armstrong minihumbucker for the fat bassy fuzzy rhythms

Image

a lindy fralin steel poled 43 pickup, supposedly pretty close to a p90 in tone and output, for sg jr territory

this guitar plays SO nicely. I was going to leave it stock but i like the feel so well that i want to make it my main guitar, so it will need a bit more versatility.

anyhow, thanks for viewing. I know this is just another guitar pron post, but I haven't seen many MMs on here, and thought you guys would like to see it.

That guitar is stunning, I love it. I think robroe will too. There's some love for MMs on shortscale.

Is it Pelham Blue?

EDIT: Are those routed for two pickups already or has yours been modified before? Seems quite a shame to cut into a vintage Melody Maker if noone else already has.

thanks!

I think robroe will be disappointed with the planned addition of TWELVE exposed pole pieces, but he'll get over it.

In fact, my original plan was a firebird minihum neck/ fralin overwound mustang bridge combo, for no PP's, but I think the current plan will fit my needs a bit better.

it was pelham, but the clearcoat has yellowed, turning it to a great sort of sherwood front/ inverness back kind of color. more green in person than in those pics.

EDIT: yeah, they are routed already, and the routs are oversized so they can take minihums as well. and, by starting with the one pup version, i get the two knob layout i like! sweet! 8)

oh yeah forgot to mention that tonepros/kluson started making these beauties, which look exacly like the old ones, but have modern guts and higher ratio action so they will be way better than the decayed tooth looking ones on there currently

Image

also, i already put some locking tonepros studs on the bridge/tail, and it's remarkable how much the sustain, action, and adjustability improved. not so much on the TOM gibsons, but anyone with a combo tail gibson should get some. also i should note that i am stringing it currently without the vibrola (i know, it looks cool, and maybe when i get new tuners itll be more usable. i hope so.)

ha, its good, but noisy, and i crave some round rhythm tones. that pickup is some kind of bar magnet icepick monster, kind of cool but only really good for clanging metallic spikey riffs. i need some warmth, some depth.

anyhow, my policy is to be able to put it back to stock, and keep all of the original parts, so i can slap on the old assembly any time i want. the only thing that will be glaringly unstock is the minihum, but since its gibsoney i think it'll fit.

DEWD. Sweet MM. I can see why you'd want to mod it a little, and props for keeping it simple. Just keep the Vibrola and we'll be fine. :D

Disagree. This guy is a chonst if he fucks-up that sweet guitar. Keep it stock and buy a fucking Jet King or something. Think about it- this guitar has survived for 41 years intact, and now this guy is gonna mash it up so he can get MEATY TONEZ. Loser.

If you want rhythm tones BUY SOMETHING ELSE.

to be fair, if it's already routed (by the factory presumably, old musicmaster II style) and all the mods he's planning are reversible i don't really see the harm. he's getting a new guard, not cutting up that one, the tuners are the same type, and he's keeping all the parts. it would just be a case of sticking the old bits back on in the event of a sale.

a tort guard would be vomit-worthy though.

+1. Do what you want to your guitar, these are all practical and reversible mods. Plus I like the new tuners.
