I've been planning this for a while...

I'm shamelessly ripping off a Vista Venus. It looks like this if you've never seen one.

I already had the ash body blank, and bought a paddle-head neck.

Then I traced a pic I stole off the internet. And I've started to make my template from MDF.

I need to find my steel rule to measure up and sort the neck area. I just got bored and wanted to do something. Ignore the random scribbles.

I'm gonna fit a pair of these fat fookers; stacked p90s (p100?) pickups.

On a really sad, looserish note. I'm not really copying the Venus, but the guitar that the design it was based on.

Not sure what it is, I think it says Mercury on the headstock.

Like I said, both SAD and LOOSERISH! ;-)

I'm also planning on a unique assymetric 3 a side headstock, with a concave curved (offset) end with a body coloured tapered bevel.

I was going to say it's not too late to do something that isn't ugly if you haven't. Your jag-stang looks great, I like it more than the original.

Perhaps you can make this look good too, but you're not giving yourself a fair starting point.

The bridge design (if you can call it that) is what really ruins these things for me. I'm thinking a Bronco bridge could really dress this thing up. It would require a revision of the pickguard design but judging from your Jag-Stang project, I know you're good for it.

I did consider making a hollow bodied Starcaster style thing, with the weird headstock. And an A-hole, rather than an F-hole, cos I'm childish and my name is Adam. But decided it would be too ambitious, for now...

Thought about 12 string, there is enough room on the headstock for 12 tuners.
But I have never played 12 string, so i'm not sure if I would like it? And aren't 12 string necks a bit wider?

Still not sure about colour. Either Fender Burgundy Mist or Dakota Red.

Incidentally I did drawings for 'speed XII', a jagstang shaped guitar, but with trimmed lower horn (like the PG on my JS).
But decided it would look crap with a small swoopy body, with long (25.5") neck and HUGE headstock.

I presume you hate how it looks like a complete after-thought? Like 'Oh, shit we need to put strings on this?'
That said it doesn't affect the lines of the pick guard or the body shape.

Nope. I'm afraid that I find nothing subtle about the ugliness of that bridge design.
it's as bold as a pair of sweaty nuts hanging about your face.
I think it's the spread of those string ferrules that bothers me the most.

the one on my MM works great, except that the g string only intonates if its wound. all the strings will be pretty damn close, but the plain g will be waaay sharp fretted.


i dont bend alot, so getting a wound doesnt bother me too much.

Any suggestions on colour?

Apparently you can get candy apple red if you layer the clear red on top of the inca silver.

I'm thinking more like ROTTEN APPLE BROWN, the clear tabacco brown over the silver.
