Mini-humbuckers (like a vintage SG)

Post by Rashomon »

I'm thinking about picking up an SG but I love the mini-buckers, both look and sound, like on the 70s SGs. Is it easy or even possible to put mini buckers on a normal SG?

If you get one like this:

You could just get a custom pickguard - simple.

You'd have to mess about with filling routs, or just have really ugly huge pickup surrounds.

Ah, good call. I guess I should be looking for one with the large pickguard if that's the direction I wanna go.

P-90 are the same size as mini humbuckers with the chunky Les Paul Deluxe surrounds. These surrounds are hard to get and impractical to fit to other guitars:

^ What he said (this is like Tim tagteam) - they're a 'mare to get hold of. Get a batwing pickguard instead, like you've already suggested. SG purists get all funny about them, but I much prefer them to look at. They make the SG look even more like Batman's guitar.

from every source i've read they are just p90 covers cut to fit the mini humbucker inside (and a p90 will drop right into les paul deluxe's), couldn't you just take a standard $2 p90 cover and dremel it for a mini-humbucker?

+1 you could just dremel the pickup cover until it fits the mini bucker
