Your looking for a strong shiny solder joint. Be gentle removing the cap though, its easy to pull the legs out in some cases.

I read an article the other week in a guitar magazine where they were saying a lot of peoples sub £500 guitars had hidden tonal qualities locked away with poor electronics and wiring. Comparable to playing with a blanket over your amp. Upgrading pickups alone can transform most budget instruments, pots, caps and wiring often get overlooked. Its something i have gotten into more recently.
I've gotta agree about this. But not only that but there is a big tonal advantage in raising the action a wee bit as well. There is too much emphasis on low action these days. Raising the saddles a turn on ultra low and kinda low setups always opens them out to me.
Yeah i agree, along with heavier string guage. Problem for me is i like low action, i was weaned on Randy Rhoads and EVH so low action was quite a necessity. ;P

For the maximum treble at max volume and tone, then yes.

I think it's worth going for it if you're gonna do it. I really think it's a great and cheap way to make the pickups in the guitar Shine.

I have a tele custom (bucker on the neck and single on the bridge)
I should just switch the pots from the humbucker, right?

btw, does anyone know how to make the volume pots master volumes in the middle position?

completed this earlier, apart from some extremely foul and abusive language at a capacitor it went pretty well considering i haven't soldered anything for 6 years

my neck pickup on my deluxe is finally usable
