I think the fab is fine for what it does... Washed out, nasty, loud and fuzzy.

Not to mention... It's nice to see their not some pretentious assholes.... And they can still shamelessly plug crap things. Like the fabtone.

Then you see them live and it is still a wall of sound regardless. Old stuff is still the best, but that is more to the purity of it.

rats of the capital, 2rights, hunted by a freak, kids will be skeletons are songs that really are the mogwai i like, so for the last records like mr. beast and the eagle is howling i like the songs that really break loose at some point (we're no here <3 love that song), that's (to me) the beauty of mogwai, there's lots of songs on there that i tend to look at as 'filler' songs, they fit in there but i don't enjoy them much, it's like 2000's radiohead ish mogwai, fine if they wanna do that it's not bad but the older albums are more interesting with guitar structures and piano etc. ..i think.

i'm not a huge fan but they have some songs that really mean a lot to me so i love them for having written those songs. :)

when i first heard batcat, it was on the tv, i heard those guitars and thought 'hey i recognise this sound' then i saw the whole clip and about halfway through i was amost certain it was mogwai though i hadn't heard the song before. then i saw the end and it came on with the song title and bandname and i was right and that song made me get the lp but now i hear that song and .. well.. it's good music, but it's like not the fragile delicate sort of mogwai like as in hunted by a freak or something but the album has its goosebump moments still, just a lot of needless 'junk' on there too.

Thats the way they have always rolled. Though if they did the Godspeed route you'd probably only have two albums that they would have released.

Anyway

<3 Christmas and Xmas Steps. Always. That is Mogwai to me. There are only like 4 things happening in that song but they build in such a way to create immense tension.

they're really a bit of a schizo band eh ? i can imagine there's fans who prefer the non 'epic' sounding songs better.
but i also love the songs with tension and buildups /loud/quiet/loud sort of thing, it's like i tend to just listen to half the songs on mr beast and the eagle is howling whereas rock action or happy songs i listen all

with godspeed though, i often don't have the patience then i get bored

Ah I enjoy those longer songs. Really helps me pass the time in an enjoyable way. I think they intend for the to me multiple songs within one movement combining. But yeah.

With Mogwai even the filler songs take on a massive intensity live.
