Just bought a vintage Hagstrom Swede.

Talk about all other types of guitars. Jazzmasters and basses go here!

Just bought a vintage Hagstrom Swede.

Post by Richard »

From a local Pawn Shop. It's beat up. They wanted $200 for it, I offered the guy $150 because it needs neck binding and he took it. The tuners were replaced at some point with Patent Pending Grovers. The headstock overlay is peeling near the tip so I just need to glue that down. It also needs new pickup rings , they're both fucked. The electronics are all functional but a little crackly, probably needs a cleaning. The neck pickup and ring are backwards. I'd never played a Swede until I saw this one, they're nice.

I'm not sure what year it was made but it was made in Sweden and the first 3 digits of the serial number are 905, so it has to be pre 1977(They went in order of batch number from 499 in 1958-59 up to 999 in 1977, not sure how they worked after that).

Anyways here it is, as you can see it needs some work(Maybe it belonged in projects?).

Yeah, a 1990's CAR/Matching Headstock one for $225. Incidentally, the Pawn Shops I bought them from are on the same road.

I don't have a decent camera to record with, but I think my roommate does. He's out of town visiting his family until the 27th. I'll get it all set up and try to record a demo when he gets back. If all works out I'll do another one for my Guild.

Nice find!

Goes to show you don't have to pay top dollar to get a great instrument. With a little bit of money I'm sure you'll end up with a great playing and sounding guitar.
