bargain new guitar
so, here is the scene. proggie walks into local guitar shop. he's just browsing whilst waiting for his brother.
proggie has a thing for single p90 guitars, think sg jr etc. he spots a reissue melody maker for sale. said guitar shop is selling off all gibson guitars, due to gibson stupid requirements of half a shops wall space to display their instruments.
so proggie walks out with a gibson melody maker for £150!!! i absolutely love it. the sound, action and weight are spot on. really versatile for only one pickup.
also picked up a digitech bad monkey with my vouchers. i quite like it, cleans up nice and works well with single coils and humbuckers.

dam right
it's a really good guitar. i think they got a roasting when they came out, but they play just as well as a les paul jr. to be honest, there's little difference sound and playability wise.

Very nice - far superior to the more recent reissues, from what I've read. Needs a pickguard, mind, but for £150, who's quibbling? I'd be interested in playing a Bad Monkey, too, meant to be ace pedals.
In other news, that Dano is soon to make its way to Prague, the Vibrochamp is no James's, and I've ordered a Matamp...

These are screwed down, i seem to remember there being one that was a stick on, because you never have to remove the PG for anything.

What's the back of the neck like? I wanted to have a go on one of the recent reissues with the strat size pickup, then when I put my hand on the back of the neck it just felt rubbish. I usually do it before picking up a guitar just to feel the quality and type of finish (the tips of your fingers are pretty good at noticing rogh spots and what-have-you) and the most recent reissue didn't get any further than that.
Shabba.

it's got a "60's" style neck. it has a rougher feel to it, due to the finish. kinda flat back c shape. it feels a lot nicer than both the goldtop and the custom. more like a fender kinda neck, to me at least.
i'm gonna order that sractchplate asap, it looks 10 times better with one.
