Harmony EB-3 copy
Sorry if this is supposed to be in the other forum. It's a short scale bass so...
Anyway. Does anyone have a feel for one of these? I came into some Christmas cash, and if the price stays lowish, I'm thinking I'll pull the trigger.

Don't worry Mamo, I get one eventually. I'm only gonna go for this one if it stays under $150. I don't really have enough for that Jazz. Totally awesome though.MaMo wrote:I'm going to talk you into a jazz bass before I die...lank
Do you know any of the specific complaints that your friend has with it?holyCATS1415 wrote:my friend has that one, its pretty terrible. I love old harmony guitars, but that one is not very fun to play.

...IMO an EB style bass is a VERY acquired taste... Mahogany body, short scale and a goddamn humbucker in the neck (and bridge, but at least with an EB-3 you have the bridge) position mean mud, and while you can get an unsettling, unique rumble from them, it's hard to make them audible in a band setting without some work... I think Gibson thought an electric bass should only be as deep as possible.
But they look cool as hell For that price I would have bought it if I needed anything like it.

gibson basses tend to be the best feeling ive ever played. the short scale and rounded neck profile, and narrow nut width, are super easy to get used to. my melody maker and my les paul bass have almost the same neck profile.
not sure about the copies. if i were after an SG shaped bass, id try to find a good deal on one of these:
they are sure to be cheaper than any EB, and they are awesome. fugly pickguard, but still awesome.

these arent known for being spectacular but its probably acceptable and might have the same exact pickup as a regular EB. plus its made by gibson in USA, a long time ago.
EDIT: FUCK THAT GET THIS!

Probably not such a bad drop, mahogany is brittle, especially when it's cheap... My first cheap-ass EB copy ever seemed to start flaking apart the day I got it from doing nothing, I've had more durable basswood things, one of my least favorite things about Gibson style things is how much I had to baby them...
That break is nowhere near harmful enough to scare me away from it.
Who would pay that much for it though.
