Warhol was akin to the Sex Pistols. He didn't have to be terribly good--he thought of stuff first, had a decent execution, and captivated his audience. There have been many better, but he was not without significance. Let's think in larger terms: who from the 20th century will be remembered in say, 200 years (assuming we don't tank because of these idiots who deny our impact on global destruction)? Who from the art world--Picasso, certainly. Who from music? I am thinking the jazz genre has a chance, but few specific bands.

and lets not forget that digital photography is done rather quickly and is no less an artform than its film predecessor.
