Yeah I hate waiting on stuff. It's a reet bastard.Doog wrote:I've ordered a set of white ones from Allparts Monday afternoon, and according to their order tracking thing they're still "to be picked"..
I just imagine some fat, sweaty guy in a vest and baseball cap slumped in a chair next to the shelves, reading the Sun. He reaches out for my covers, but can't quite reach them without moving out of the chair slightly. So he goes "Mehhhh..." and turns to Page 3 again.
Man, I am SO impatient.
Also, just won a MIM Strat bridge pickup on eBay for 20 quid and am waiting on my Jazzy covers from Mr Burbz. Hope all the crap arrives here before Sunday, I ain't taking the Jazzy to London :/
Since one of the JM pup covers I just got had a bit of a cosmetic manufacturing fault in it, I did a very sloppy dry-run to see if I can put in the new hole by hand. And I can.

Pisspoor job I know, but at least I know how to approach the real thing. May wait until the Strat pickup turns up to see if the polepieces are more-or-less alligned before I do the real one though.

way late but you could of done what fender japan does/did and put a strat pickup in a jazzmaster casing?Doog wrote:Thinking about one for the Jazzmaster- none of the 3 pickups I've had in the bridge over the years has brought the kinda spanky bright tone I really want, a sound that comes out of the Tele or Strat from the word go.
It might look gash, so gonna do a 'shoop to check it out first..
Do you mean an actual angled Strat pickup like I'm doing? Or the fact that the stock CIJ pickups are pretty much just wide Strat pickups?
I've still got the stock pup in the neck and it actually suits me fine, hopefully this new bridge unit and position will be an improvement on the original bridge pup though.. which I don't remember sounding all that Stratty, presumably down to the lack of angle.
Guess ahhh wasn't cut out for the reeeeall Jazzmaaaster sound all along..

Ain't no time finer than 1am with some beers to guitar mods!
So, the MIM Strat pickup went in fine (with first-try JM cover and nonRoe cover, just for the quickness) :

The Strat pickup is just being held in tight by the Jmaster pup cover, no problems with it so far except..

As I was fearing, the route isn't deep enough, making the pickup waaaay jacked up. "Twice as loud as neck pup" loud. Pain in the arse, looks like I'm either gonna have to shim the neck a fair bit, or cut the route deeper.
BUM.
Either way, it won't be happening for a while since I'm back to uni tomorrow..
Guess I cooooooould take it with me..

Ugh, do not want library Mac..
I'll give shimming the neck a go first seeing as it's non-destructive- if I make a shim the exact size of the neck pocket, it won't affect the action or tilt of the neck, it'll just increase the tension over bridge (once it's adjusting accordingly) for even more sustainlulz. Like an SG or something, those fretboards are way higher than the scratchplate and still can have a silkysmooth low action.
Should only need to be like 5mm thick, if that.
