Jaguar bridge on a Jazzmaster? am i being screwed?

So i bought this new CIJ Jazzmaster which is currently getting set up for me.

I spoke to the tech guy there and he assured me that he knows all about jazzmaster bridge problems and that he has customers coming in all the time with bridge issues. I have been doing loads of research on the net lately about the problem and it seems like the most efficient way to sort it is to put a mustang Bridge on it, which i initially asked him to do.

He said that the best way to fix it is to put a Jaguar Bridge on it... , he said something about the bridge height stays completely stable and the saddle grooves are deeper. Should i call the FBI or is this a Legit mod for a Jazzmaster?

In my research, i have found that it seems the Jag bridge is identical? and that for rock music, its problematic.

I'm a heavy handed player and my jag bridge performs perfectly well. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
But if it is broke, try a mustang bridge or possibly a buzz stop.

you mean mustang bridge because i thought that jag and jazzy bridges were the same

yeah thats what i meant, Jag an jazz bridges were the same...

obviously mustang bridges have one groove in each saddle.

SO can anyone shed any light onto this... has anyone heard of this being done before??

yeah mustang bridges are almost the same aside from the saddles it should just pop right in to the bridge holes in your jazzy

It'll work but it's the same damn bridge. Warmoth makes a modified jazzmaster bridge, look into that. I think it's just a jag bridge with mustang saddles.

K the guitar repairer says its different in that it doesnt have height adjustment and the saddles are deeper???? is he talkign bollocks?

Maybe the radius? I've owned both guitars and the bridges are pretty much identical in construction, even if a few of the dimensions are different.

I was told by Fender that their new Adjustomatic bridge for the Jazzmaster (it's on the J Mascis and Classic versions) should fit a Made/ Crafted in Japan Jazzmaster. I have the bridge on order for my own MIJ Jazzmaster. The part number is 0080365000 and the RRP is £23.99.

The Jaguar and Jazzmaster bridge are identical, you change the radius by adjusting the saddle height grub screws. Your tech got it mixed up with the Mustang bridge with the sounds of things.
The Mascis adjustomatic bridge wont fit your Jazzmaster i believe because you have the old traditional thimbles, not the ones to mount a screw in bridge. But if it does let us know for sure. I would set your stock bridge up using either the shortscale wiki or Fender Jaguar.net guides. For the sake of a few hours work you will save yourself £25 and will have a perfectly operational system. But if Fenders advice is right that will be interesting.

let's just make it crystal clear:

if you pay someone to install a jaguar bridge on your jazzmaster, you are paying them for nothing, as it wont fix your problems, and you are indeed getting ripped off. you told the guy you wanted a mustang bridge on there and he shouldn't argue with you. screw that guy.

anyway, installing this style bridge couldn't be easier, i recommend you just order a stang bridge and do it yourself. if youve never set a guitar up before, theres never been a better time than now, and this forum would be glad to help if you get stuck, im sure.

Putting a Mustang bridge on a jag/jazz is a NOOB move, don't do it. Have it set up the RIGHT WAY, then you won't look back a few years later and want to kill yourself for being an idiot.

I think we need to ask Roach if the Adjustomatic on her Mascis Jazzy uses screw in posts, if it does it would appear Fender know about as much as that tech.

+1 on Mustang bridge being a n00b fix.
