Better now that the pickguard is black!
Seriously though, sounds delicious. Like a more mid-rangey P-bass. I've never played an OG mustnag bass, so I don't know how it compares. I'm glad the stock pickup is a keeper, because I don't think there are any commercial replacements available.

i was curious because I've never heard or played a mustang bass, I know that minor aesthetic changes do not affect sound.

Everytime I take the pickguard off mine to work on it (which has been a fair bit recently) I consider if I should actually just buy a black pickguard. Seeing the back of it black tempts me without fail. If it was straight reversible it would have been switched round at least once by now.
White guitars with black pickguards are under-rated.
Nice to see you got it together with the black, Astro. I'm digging it.
I just ordered a black guard for my comp fiesta gtr a couple of days ago.
Where did you get the bass guard from?
Could this possibly be the OG finish? Just because they painted Strats that way, I doubt they ever painted a MM, unless it was for practice or for an employee or relative.

true. and black guitars w/ white guards are highly over-rated...
Definitely! I think black with white pg is my least favourite guitar finish - mainly because it is used all the time, especially on cheap strat copys.
I've always liked the idea of a white mustang with black guard, although I think black pickups covers would look better.

I got it from Jeanie Pickguards via Ebay. $25.95 plus shipping. The black pickguard on the Mustang guitar is actually a Fender Japan 69 RI guard, from GPR. I'm not sure which colour of the 69 RI used a black guard, though.
