Was just re-stringing my Squier strat and decided to take a peek under the pg.
For some reason I was expecting it to have a swimming pool route, but no! I have never seen a guitar routed like this:

A bit dissapointing though, can't add a 2nd pickup without having to do some major works.

Get a Seymour Duncan P-Rails and a 3 way mini switch. You'll have 3 different tones and won't have to do anything to the body.

Besides all that extra wood must be good for tone like.

Nothing wrong with the guitar. Just the pickup.

Do what Nick said.

Hmm I might do that! I will investigate it, is it just a soldering job and some holes in the pg?

+2. Although depending on what sound you want, that pickup is one of the best on the market.

You would need this:

And this:

With a little help from

(the pictures are links)

You'll need to make a tiny hole in the pickguard for the mini switch but it should fit under the route. If you're on a tighter budget you could use any humbucker with a 4 conductor wire (including the pickup in it right now) and just get a basic 2 position mini switch to do a coil split.

IMPORTANT OBSERVATION: This is a good idea.

And here's another important observation. I just bought one of those P-rails through a MAKE AN OFFER ebay listing for $70. My offer was instantly accepted, and there's one more left. I'm not sure if lower than $70 would work but it doesn't hurt to try.

I'm seriously close to robbing the post office so that I can buy Reece's guitar in the classifieds and stick some P-rails in it. One question, is it possible to get solid humbucker covers that will fit and are gun metal finish? I can't find any.

I haven't seen any closed cover gunmetal covers. I'm planning to use a nickel cover myself, but I'm pretty sure it's going to take shaving down the bobbin a little to get it to fit. I'll make a thread about it once it gets here

hmm, their website seems to think you won't have to, as they're both 1.438 wide. I suppose it depends if the P-rails is 2.695 tall.

I've heard it called black nickel and red brass, might find some under those names.

GPR has some called "nickel covers", might be the same sort of thing:
