wiring question

Post by Mo Law-ka »

on my tele custom, or a les paul, or any guitar with 2 pickups and a 3-way toggle, does the middle position act as a blend position?

Middle position will be both pickups. You'd be able to blend to an extent with the volume knobs.

Sometimes, turning one volume all the way down will cut the output entirely. If you don't want this, swap middle and edge wires on the volume pots. Leave the ground where it is and just reverse the other 2.

my real question is this:

would it be any different sound wise if i swapped the switch for a blend pot?

im just wondering, because ive heard some people on here say that the switch isnt the same as blending the pickups. plus, im just a noob with a big postcunt

Blend pots suck. I've tried every incarnation, and I've never found a setup that actually worked well. You imagine that it would be like the balance control on a stereo, but in reality it's just on/off with a bunch of crappy, muddy, low volume sounds in between.

lol at "postcunt" : )

Agreed. And even if it did work ideally, you're still left with trying to find the "sweet spot" as opposed to having 3 solid options. Simplicity is a virtue when it comes to guitar controls.

say, there is a 3way switch and a blend pot with a center detente, so you still have the option of normal switching, but you can dial in your middle position if you like.

seems like thatd be neat.
