Yes, matching headstocks were available as early as '62. Fiesta Red was still on the custom color chart as of '65 (when the chart was revised). It was actually a '56 T-Bird color, one of the few custom colors to come from Ford.
No, I didn't use a single picture, but looked at many pics of custom color '65s. We had a thread on it over at offset, especially dedicated to B&D '65 and early '66 's and people dumped in a shitload of pics. We also have many of them in our gallery over there, including some FR originals. The originals tend to be red, orange, coral and pink... or variants of all those colors depending on the light and degree of wear.
Edit: Here's an earlier example that looks alot like mine:
Looks to about '62-'63 based on the green guard, clay dots, and spag logo...

I literally lol'd at that!Hmmm... looks like you wrote the date on the pickups with a 2B pencil. I'm pretty sure Fender only used HB pencils for pickup dates in 1965. Now everything's ruined!
Actually, I used a fine point Sharpie which I'm sure wasn't around in '65!
Cowbell... I'll look for a pic of a FR '65...

This is for sale over at Offset now. He's asking $975 with non-Fender hard case.

For any non-Offest people who are interested I can send a PM telling him of the interest. He has an account here though I don't think he's been on in a while, I imagine he can log in to sort out a sale if anyone wants it though.fullerplast wrote:Everything you might want to know about it is

AND LOTS OF COMPLETED PICS HERE...
Look at the pics in the threads closely, it is what it is.
Body is USA-made and neck is MIJ.
I'm selling it for about what it cost to build.
Everything is brand new except the bridge, toggle switch, pickup covers and hardware (which are vintage).
$975 with non-Fender hard case.
PM for details.
edit: if you dont wanna wade through those threads... pickups are new SD Antiquity IIs with correct gray bobbins, all cloth wiring, all shielded with brass in the cavities and the aluminum pg shield, repro double line Klusons, 1 meg main pots, NOS witch hats... the case is very sturdy but nothing to jump for joy over, one latch broken.
Shabba.

hope nobody has commented on this already, i didnt go through all the pages.Mike wrote:
The country of origin really doesn't have anything to do with the quality of workmanship. For example, I would buy a Japanese Car over a British one all the day long.
I just wanted to point out that this is a funny statement.
great looking guitar. awesome.
