I love the Venus. I think I'd have to go surf green or sonic blue for it, though. Not very "out of the box" but I just think those are the best colours, or types of colours for it. They really remind me of Rickenbacker 360s, so I just assume that they have the binding on the back too.

I've hardly touched this in ages.

Been waiting for parts and a few boring excuses. (I rushed and fucked it up a bit!)

Anyway got the bridge & machine heads and some other crap.
So now I've pretty much got all the stuff I need to put this together!

Update coming soon!

Here it is!

Image
Fuckup No.1 can be seen in the top.
I pushed the router too fast and got tearout.
So had to re shape concave curve on the top.
Highly pissed off but it's that or bin it, or a big chunk of filler!

Image
Fuck up No.2, A chunk missing out of the neck pocket area.

Might reshape and use one of these.

Note to self; DO NOT RUSH!!!!!!

Here is my initial pickguard design.

Image

I Think I'm gonna make it a bit bigger, but this is the kind of shape I'm aiming for.
The pennies represent the tone/volume controls and that lonely one on the lower horn is where the pickup selector will be.

BTW I settled for a Goon-O-Matic bridge and ferrules. (cue the haters!)

I cut the neck pocket and that nasty scar is gone!
So no need for a funny shaped neck plate.

And the neck fits really well!

I've got a different neck now. An Eden neck with a tilted back headstock and rosewood fretboard.
I've read horror stories about shitty Eden necks but mine is nice.
It's slim and has a good feel to it, and no loose frets or shit like that like I've read about on the internet.

Right then.
I've Smoothed out all the cut edges apart from either side of the neck pocket which are about 10mm wide.

I'm going to rear route for the electics. And paint it Burgundy Mist.

I want some opinions on a couple of things:

-PICKGUARD COLOUR; White, Black or White Pearloid

-CONTOURS; Fore arm and belly contours, is is worth the effort?

Oh and if i go for a white or pearl pickguard I'll need these.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cream-P90-humbuck ... m153.l1262

But they're 'cream' rether than white and might look crap. Opinions?

I've done the contours.

And because I have no wood working tools, am stingey and impatient.
I used and angle grinder with soft pad and sanding disc.
It worked really well!
I've done a bit of work with a file, smoothing off the corners and rounding it out.
The bulk of the work took about 5- 10 mins.

I've just ordered some clear cellulose from here

http://www.choiceful.com/choiceful-id-7 ... 500ml.html

Excellent value for money, but out of stock right now so I'll have to wait a bit.
Worth it I think.

Still undicided on the colour though?

*EDIT* I waited about 2 months and never recieved any laquer, had a refund

A couple of weeks back I decided to dig this up out of it's grave and do something with it.

I've started by putting right the fuck up i made cutting the overall shape.
You can se where i stuck a patch in.

I'm much happier with the overall shape, progress will again be slow, but at least I'm doing something with it.

Planning on a kinda skewed 3+3 headstock, longer on the bass side. With a concave curve to the end with a body-coloured beveled edge to it. (does that make sense?)
