So I just bought a 2008 Standard Strat

And here it is:

I literally want to have sex with it.

I sense that Strats don't get that much love over here (well relative to Jags etc), but have fulfilled one of my lifetime ambitions today. Ever since the age of 13 or so, I wanted a white maple fretboard USA strat, as immortalised by Hendrix's Woodstock performance.

Got it from Peter Cook's in west London. Not bad at £669. It's a nightmare to get to but worth the journey. Reallly friendly in there - the guy remembered me and even recalled where I live from the conversation we had last time I was there about three months ago. I wanted to try it out in comparison with a classic player, but they'd sold out. Tried it alongside a standard Mexican, and there was no comparison.

Nice.

I was surprise at how cheap American Fenders are the other day. For some reason, I'd always assumed they were around a grand, except for the Highway 1's.

I think a grand in dollars is about £750.00 at the moment. About two years ago i had a great time buying stuff from the US, i was saving hundreds on Fenders, the only downside was import fees.

Yeah, the price was a pretty big motivation in getting the USA Standard model, especially given the imminent rise. Cheapest I was able to find elsewhere is around the £730 mark, and that's from online retailers.

I really like strats, and that looks like a nice strat.

For the price, you can't really beat it. Compaired to a classic player(which are amazing guitars), they wont drop off of re-sale as much.

Well done! Pretty keen price there. I paid £799 for a "lite ash" Sienna Sunburst USA Standard just before Christmas, and allowing a bit extra for the ash you're still at least £40 down on anything else I was looking at. As regards lack of love for Strats - it is a shortscale board.
It's my second Strat - I'm sure there are there are a couple more Strat owners here .

the best looking strat is Fiesta w/white guard + mapls. a combo you don't see nearly enough and one of the coolest looking guitars ever.

(barely) interesting aside- apparently that shadows guitar actually belongs to cliff richard, not hank marvin, but the other guitarist 'borrowed' it in like, 1982 and won't give it back.
