SOVTEK
this is fucking cool, i think
http://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDe ... em=2020627
im currently looking at amps i could potentially sell my hot rod deluxe to buy, and this is... that. i imagine that sovtek and a 15" extension cab, or maybe 215, would be thunderous.
what do you guys think?
im replacing my hot rod deluxe eventually with another loud amp... i know ive been talking about 4w matamps and the like, but i need a stage amp no matter what, as brittany is looking at some pretty vicious boxes, bassmans and marshalls and whatnot.
what other amps are badass in the <500USD, ~50w range? it doesnt have to be a combo, but itd be nice as i probably wont be able to afford a cab right away after buying it.

I own a Sovtek mig100 and a Silverface bassman, both of which I got in the relative 400-550 mark. My 2x15 cab plus either of those heads is thunderous. Some have said that the sovtek is kinda like a cross between a JCM800 and a Bassman, I'm not gonna completely agree with that. I've been borrowing this JCM800 and it's a completely different amp than the sovtek, much more distortion rather than the mig100's crunch.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with a sovtek, but there is also the Peavey classic series that you may want to look into.

If you're looking for plexi/basseman type amps, Sovteks are definitely a good, cheaper alternative.
I've played a few Mig 50's that I absolutely adored but they are kind of hard to find, in good condition for under $600.
As a user, I highly recomend vintage Traynors.
The YBA line are basically 50W plexi/Bassman clones and can generally be had, in very good shape for around $500.
Sofar as I know, these only come in head form but a quick and dirty alternative would be the YGL Mark III (available both in head and combo form) that sound absolutely vicious, again anywhere around $500-$600 range, altough they are less bare boned, master volume, reverb equipped amps.
If you're looking for information on these, this is a great place to start: http://www.informatik.uni-bremen.de/~dace/vb/
Lots of information on the different models and circuit variations, some interesting info on popular mods and whatnot.
Most of the pricing information is a few years old and these things have recently started to skyrocket so don't pay any attention to it.

thanks for the info!
i will look into traynor, too.
the thing i like about sovtek right now is that they arent super expensive yet, but im betting they will get there. and they have a uniqueness, they arent just straight up copies of anything ive seen. aesthetically, i mean.
plus,

Truth. Last person I remember who had a problem with bassmen was some douche triple rectum fire dude.
He kept arguing that they sounded "stale". I was like: OMG, shut yer face your rig is the very definition of stale!

right, bassmans rule and such. great for HER...
i can't get one so im looking at sovteks. maybe ill just get her drunk and when shes passed out move the bassman into the other room and claim it was stolen, and everytime she comes in that room, ill throw a blanket over it, and ill buy HER a sovtek to make her feel better about the whole thing.

Don't get the wrong idea, The mig-50's that I tried were godamned orgasmic. A trully overrated amp.
As for the Traynors, well... I own one and I would straight up cut a ng, if he tried to take it from me.
I pushed for that bassman because it's an amazing deal and yes, they ARE amazing amps but the Sovtek and Traynors,
in my opinion, are equally awesome, in ther own right.
