think about it,
fender made a 5 string bass with a higher string.
the advantage is the higher string,
it is currently strung and tuned like a newer 5 string bass.
the advantage is of course the 5th string it is now a low be and not a high c.
its definitly not the ugliest.
think about the preformer or the katana.
those were pretty bad.
to me it seems like 2,500.00 is a good price to pay for it becuz its collectible, and you can play it without worrying about the paint job.

I would love to try one. It definitely looks like a different approach to the electric bass. For one thing, the extra string just basically gives it the same range as a normal bass neck, still not quite though. Also the fact that the body is almost the length of the neck extended from the body means it's possible to pluck strings much higher on the string, which might result in a different tone. Also the long body would make for a better balance. All in all I'm very curious.
my goal in life is to have one of every model of guitar that fender has made.
for example:
i already have these:
Tele
Strat
P-bass
Bronco
need:
bass vi
jag
jazz
jagstang
bass v
jazz bass
the list goes on

allow me to amend my comment: ugliest design pre-1980. i feel pretty confident now.robert(original) wrote:think about it,

nick: why couldnt you pluck a string higher on a normal bass?
is it cool just because it is a short scale 5 string?
im not saying its useless, i just dont understand the appeal. and that bass horn is awful.
if it were just a 5 string musicmaster bass, id be into it more.
it is quite a life when you're 17.Nick wrote:Must be some life.Mo Rocca wrote:my goal in life is to have one of every model of guitar that fender has made.
i want one of these though. i'd be the only kid in town with one.

I've always been curious about these. It was the world's first 5 string electric bass guitar, I believe. It only has 15 frets, because Leo Fender thought the advantage to having the C string was that you could play more notes while keeping your left hand in the same position. He never imagined that people might want a bass with extended range, so the 15 frets give it the same range as a regular 4 string with 20 frets.
These would be cool as a reissue with a low B string. I think it looks awkward and cool all at once, and if I were a millionaire I'd buy one.

keep going with this idea and you end up with a piano
i didnt realise it was the first 5 string bass, or that it is long scale. neat.
if it just had mustang horns id probably be drooling. that top horn looks like those shitty plastic guitars.
EDIT- ehhh, not really. still, how bad did those suck?

the main thing i don't like about the fake neck version is that, the headstock looks like its been peiced with steel rods.
too many tuners in such a small area.
its interesting tho, i would pay 600 bucks for it.
and then wait for 30 years till i saw a neck pop up somewhere and have to pay 12,000 for it.

The neck looks shorter with the 15 frets but there bigger than pbasses' really uncomfortable if you dont play one a lot though.robert(original) wrote:is it astro?
i was never sure, it looks like a shortscale, but! the neck is super short so its probly just an illusion.
All in all that thing is CHEAP for what I've seen those go for.
