Anybody got, or played with, a Boss RE-20?

The Space Echo looking character; I'm pretty interested, since there's an expression input for fuckery and everything, but have never played one, and have a built in irrational dislike for Boss pedals. Anybody? Hmmmm?

euan brought his re20 to doogfest this summer and i messed with it, i used it on a drumcomputer and thought it was a really fun and good sounding pedal, i was almost at the point of buying one the day after but then didn't.. because i figured i'm not the kinda person to use a delay pedal with so many features but kinda regret it now... haha

Ah-ha. Cheers Kim - I'd be selling two delays to fund it (was looking at a reverb anyway) - looks pretty fucking pricey thought.

i'm not sure since it's been a while but i think i saw it at a shop for about 150 pounds in denmark street..somewhere, i think there was only one store that had it in stock... it's not cheap, i've seen them for about 200euros. maybe if you can score one secondhand for a good price.
it's not for lovers of just cold sterile digital delay i think though, but if you like a fuller sounding warm delay that does great oscillations and all it's cool. i like both a short digital metallic sounding delay and a more retro warm delay but in a band.. and on guitar, i only really need the first, that's what i keep telling myself to make me feel less :? for not getting it though.

<3 Mine. I got it for £120 from Sound Control in Glasgow back in 2007 just before I bought my flat. It was meant to be the first one in Scotland at the time and the guy that put a deposit on it had cancelled just before I walked into the shop. Fated.

It is one of my most used pedals. Sounds amazing on everything.

I think everyone at Doogfest II loved it.

It's a very nice pedal and I was very impressed with it on our pre-Stickam jam of it.

I want one but I'm slightly put off by the words COSM on it and the fact it's £150

I want to see someone demo a SE 201 beside it.... and as of yet for whatever reason that has not happened yet

Radiohead no longer tour with RE201 and use the RE20.

I did see it on Johnny's board, so yeah you have a major point there.

I was just under the impression boss may well of got a dd3 and an rv 5 stuck them in a box together renamed the knobs and stuck on a filter to make it sound all old and hot the rights to the Space Echo name.... who knows, I think I shall check it out again, what is the buffer like?

hm.. i don't know much (if anything) about building pedals but the rv and dd combined sound nothing like what the r20 does, r20 sounds more organic (can you say that about a pedal ??)

I have been debating with my self to either get this pedal or the line 6 dl4. and after playing with them both i defiantly enjoy the space echo much more. But i really enjoy oscillations and tape wow and flutter and all that crazy high repeat rate stuff, and this box does that perfectly, I really like it, can't wait till i get my own.

I came across a guy who's made a vst version of the 201 a while ago...
I've never heard an original so I don't know how accurate it is, the samples sound good tho...

So I remember loving this pedal at doogfest and feeling like I hadn't seen what it could do in full. Does it have...

- Reverb
- Expression pedal in
- Tap tempo
- Good straight delays
- Awesome noisy stuff

If it has all of those I'm going to buy one.

- Yes, though not a great great reverb
- Yes

- Yes

I still need to get an expression pedal for it.

The reverb pedal I currently have is nice - if you're after a slapback echo. It's the dano mini one and only has controls for 'mix' and 'hi-cut'. It's most redeeming feature is that it's purple.

How not great is the RE-20 reverb? I'm going to sell my Replica delay to buy this (probably, I might not and use mustang funds) and I was considering using the money from that for the T Rex Room mate which is probably the best reverb pedal I've heard. I'd go with a fairly good reverb if it meant great delay though.

I would call it limited. Better as a slight ambience thing rather than a full on reverb.

Watching some youtube videos now. The gearwire one at Namm was just useless. The Guitar World one takes about 3 minutes to get going and stays with some very tame settings so far. Boo tedious demos.

i couldn't go all splashy surf reverb like a dano spring king or ehx holy grail does but those are reverb spec. pedals re20 isn't just common to have some reverb/room hall type setting with a delay.

each time i see a dano spring king i wanna take it home but i can't get over the size...
ehx holy grail does the job but instead of having the flerrbbb on it ehx should've paid more attention to making it not suck so much volume...my opinion

does it mean i have bad taste when i say i LOVE the reverb on my fender stage 100 ? lol
