How do I set a neck and bridge straight on a blank body?

Painting? Routing? Set-up tips? Or just straight-up making a guitar from scratch? Post here, and post pics!

How do I set a neck and bridge straight on a blank body?

Post by TheBurbz »

I have a blank body, which I don't think is symmetrical, and I have a bridge and neck. I want to get the neck straight and the bridge straight but I can't set one without the other already set ???

How do I do it plz?

Cowbell did mine. I will have to sort it out once I get MLKaster.

Ideally you should cut the neck pocket before the body with a marked centre line. But, you are past that so.. you need to mark the centre of the neck pocket then mark a line down the body that is square to the pocket. If you dont understand that mark a line down from the edge of the pocket then from the centre, it must measure the same distance apart all the way down. From this you can centralize everything... bridge, pup routes, etc.

The only square part on a non-symetrical guitar is where the neck pocket goes, you have to square down from that. I had the same problem with the JS project.

Cheers Fran, the routes were not perfectly straight but I was able to work it out from there.

Thank you.
