1) you *need* a reverb pedal - cannot imagine good clean sound without reverb. EHX holy grail is most revered, also consider Marshall RF1 Reflector for a cheaper alternative.
2) Delay would help - just a little bit to fill out the sound. Analog sounds nicer with clean, so yes Behringer Vintage delay is a good suggestion.

I really like the sound of a decent chorus pedal, although I don't think anybody else on here does. A subtle chorus effect can add a bit od depth and colour to a clean sound which I like.

That's probably a good eethos to go by, but in the past I've found that if I'm at a gig or whatever and the clean tone's shitty from somebody elses amp, a bit of chorus can give it a bit of balls. Then you end up with chorus all over the place, though, so that's probably not good advice.
I just tried out the Dyna Comp and that really helped to bring out some soft parts when I'm playing alone. So that's definitely a good addition. Hopefully I can go shopping in the next day or two and try out some of these other suggestions.

Hmmm you're right, i guess it dont matter so much in a band situation...actually reverb can be detrimental at a live gig.
yes on second thoughts actually best to ignore my post above..
reverb is weird. mainly because it imulates what it actually is, reverberation in the room
ie, i love a splash of reverb [via the rv-7] but some cafe' gigs i do there is too much natural reverb already
probably safer w/ chorus/comp type stuff
