NOT Comp Orange. Mustang Project. Colour poll and new pics

Post by Dave »

Hi y'all!

First post...

I recently instigated a project to gets me a competition Orange stripy Mustang. It's going to be a learning experience for sure and maybe you'd like to see it as it develops or give your sagely advice to my n00bie whining. It will not be authentic entirely but it will have mojo aplenty.

I already have a '65 Mustang neck (A width) which was to be a part of a Jaguar HH project however I'm now all about single coils and Mustangs.

I've just sent some ££'s to forum member James for a 64/65 Mustang body, trem, bridge, knobs and plate via a certain 'other forum' that some of you also frequent (Hi Aen!) so it looks like things are off the starter line. Maybe I'll be able to afford all the rest of what I need once I've sold my old project off but in the mean time thar be some serious re-finishing to do! Expect quizzical questions about paint soon.

Pics to follow...

Cheers!

I love A width necks. It'll be really cool to see this project come together, it should be pretty fast!

Can't remember official fender measurement but I measured mine and it about 38/39 mm. Dunno what that is in Imperial...."Teeny-tiny" I think.

then i guess i like a width!
my duo just measured out to 38.46 mm's
i always felt that was really comfy to me.
my j.s. is a flat 40mm's and my tele is 41.53 mms
its weird to think that 3.5 mms or so really can make that much of a difference in feel, but i guess it does.

Compared to my Strat with it 42/43 mm and super chunky neck with 25 inch scale it makes a HUGE(tiny) difference. I really have the hands of a small girl and it's why I got into short scales! Curse you God for my tiny hands!

im right there with ya, im 5.5 on a good day, and my hands are short stubs with little knobs hanging off of them that are often mistaken for fingers.
thus my favorite guitars(in no particular order)
a 1959/1960 fender duo sonic parts caster.(22.5 scale)
a 96 jag-stang(24 scale)
my 06 telecaster that i built(25.5)

Yeah my point is saying "I'm 5 and a half inches on a good day" doesn't translate to a "lol i'm so short" joke. THINKS ABOUT ITS.

I too have a comp orange Mustang project on the go. I'm stuck at the painting bit at the moment. I've got the orange nitro (from manchester guitar tech) and the body is prepped, I'm just waiting for the weather to improve. How do you plan on spraying yours?

I requested the last batch and he made some up especially, I brought a can and he sold the remainders on the site. There weren't that many made up I think. He's a nice guy though, I reckon he'd make more if there was enough demand.

It's only a week or so since I settled on daphne blue. Some people would say you're just trying to make things difficult

I'm thinking about ordering my paint for my project guitar from here:
http://www.kmguitars.com/kmguitars2_page_8.htm
They've got alot of choice.

I know it says 'nitro alklyd' rather than 'nitro cellulose'.
But I read somewhere that what we've been buying as 'nitro cellulose' is 'nitro alklyd' and is very similar.

Also in my yoof I did a bit of autobody/paint (mostly painting/welding) at college.
And I remember something about cellulose paint being outlawed in bodyshops.
Mainly because of the VOCs (volitile organic compounds).

Hope this helps.
