im thinking about refinishing my amstd tele's neck. its an 04 model, before they started doing that weird satin back, vintage gloss fretboard/headstock thing they do now (thats dumb anyway, imo)
so its all satin, which isn't my preference. the body is natural ash, and has a glossy clear finish, and the neck would look way better, and feel better, if the finish way glossy to match.
im worried about finishing the fretboard, however. how do you prep a maple fretboard for refinishing? how much of a pain will it be to strip the satin poly finish off the neck?
if its more trouble thanits worth, ill probably skip it. but itd be a learning experience and in the long run id be happier with the guitar. otherwise the feel of the neck is superb, the fret ends are the best ive ever seen, the frets are wide and kind of low profile, and the "rolled edges" arent just a gimmick, it really does make the neck feel super smooth and comfy. a gloss finish would just be icing.
thanks!
renfinishing maple neck.

check it out yo, you can polish satin finish to be glossy. I did it with a neck I have. I used some Meguiars polish my dad had. Something like this:

don't get the stuff that's "medium cut" or "heavy cut" or any kind of "cut"; that's like sandpaper. polish is the final step after you sand it. you could try sanding it as well but I just used the polish and it turned out great.
