another stupid bassman question

Post by robert(original) »

i want to be really careful with this beast so i wanted to ask if it would be cool to hook up an 8 ohm 15 speaker, would it damage the head at all?
i know james illuded to the fact that it was ok, but i wanted to make sure.
and one more thing.
there are obviously two speaker outputs on the back, does that mean i can safely hook up another cabinet?
will it split the power or is it another 50 watts or so of seperate power?

usually if it has 2 one is 8 and one is 4 and if you hook them both up it runs them both at 8

at least it did on most the amps i've owned.

If the Bassman is specd. for 4 ohms most of the time 8 ohms won't be any problem. Some people even do prefer this kind of "mismatching" on Fender amps.
Compared to mismatching to the other side (ha ha, I mean: 2 ohms) it's better for the tubes also.

ONLY use the normal output. ifyour eusing one cab. the extension speaker jack is only for running 2 cabs or whatever. I fyou hook up to the ext. cab jack, no sound will come out if it hasnt been fucked with, and you'll probably be running the head with no load, K-POW! let the smoke out.

That can happen but I've never experienced any failures because of that when the amp isn't fully dimed/etc. when you do that but....

better be safe than needing a new OT, new tubes, etc. ;)
