NOT Comp Orange. Mustang Project. Colour poll and new pics

DEWDS! I was so excited about the mustang project I ACCIDENTLY A WHOLE COMPETITION STRIPE!!!!....on my Stratobastard that is:
Yeah yeah I know I'm a suckah.

Well I haven't even figured out the paint to use as such, just kind of thought 'F*ck it" where there's a will there's a way. My brief investigations seem to indicate the exact colour is called 'School Bus Yellow' named from it's use on USA School buses and other such socially functional items. There's a company that sells it (Krayol or summfink?) but i haven't checked to see 'what' kind of paint it is. Ideally I want that nitro-wossname proper stuff.
As for the spraying....I still have an airbrush and compressor from my teenage love of Fantasy and awful cheesey pics of warriors and such....maybe that will do the job (more research needed!)
As you vouch for the Manchester chap I'll probably contact him to see what he can do too.
James
Yellow/Orange is this years Daphne blue! no seriously though that guitar looks great in that colour! Is there a thread with a blue version?
If truth be told last night I dreamed of of a Comp Orange Flying V....and I liked it!
Hopefully this weekend I can put up some preliminary shots of the bits I currently have. i might string them up just to check my neck is all good....

Here's some pics of the '65 Mustang Neck and a coupla picks of the old project to which it was attached:
Got the body and bits today from James. had a very interesting time trying to understand the trem set up. For two hours i wondered if the trem string holder was for a lefty because the indents were on the 'wrong' side. Duh. I must have unscrewed the bits and take the strings off several times before I checked a photo....
I've bolted on my neck to it and the angle was totally bending forward way too far with action a mile wide. A quick shimming and truss rod adjustment (I say quick but that's a lie) and the thing plays super smooth how I like it. I love it when a world of pain becomes a world of awesome guitar lovliness! Anyhoo some piccies
Right next things next....next topic for discussion is PAINT and TO TUMMY TUCK OR NOT....

lol @ quoting three pictures straight after they were posted when only one is relevant to the comment, not to mention the language of the comment itself.
I'd say that even though it's been refin'd, as is about to be again, because the body has survived without routing this far keeping it slab body is the way to go. It wouldn't be a crime to cut a back contour in it, but it's probably more work than it's worth too.

Shabba.
What about a Floyd Rose and some kickin' Dimarzio X2n HB's? Got a rad idea for like a skulls and lightning picture on the front too and reshaping that tired old headstock more 'pointy'.Mike wrote:Mustangs don't need contours, the bodies are tiny as they are.
I kid, I kid!
In penitence some pr0n for you all to get you thinking about the best way to make my Grrrtar look like these:

By this aforementioned phenomena I'd like to posit the dream of theoretical Physicists every where - the grand unified theory:Zaphod wrote:those two are like day and night.
the top one is really clean whereas the second one looks like it was in a struggle with a gas stove.
Comp Orange Mustang + struggle with a gas stove = UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLY MEGA-SEXOR.
'Word' and that.

Wise shortscale dudes. I've been offfered some unsused and boxed Lindy Fralin Vintage Hot Mustang pups for £100- is this Win? Anyone have experience with 'em?
I've given little thought to pups up til now however they need some Grrrr and bite to them to work well through a Harmonic Percolator into a tube amp stack. I liek single coils and/or pups that let you 'hear the guitar itself' if that means anything to ya. Although they be stacked HB's my STrats Dimarzio HS-3's have this quality...
Anyway Lindy Fralin Vintage Hot Pups for £100 - be this win? Anyone suggest other options for a hot but not too thick pup?
