Mike what if I offered you $1600 for the amp, and I'll pay the costs for shipping and insurance, and pay you for your labor? We can do the payment through paypal so it can be an honest transaction. I would be extremely happy if I had this amp in my collection. Is this a good deal?

Thank you for your time.
Mike wrote:Hi XXXXX,

This is a generous offer, but I think for the time being I am going to keep hold of the amp and keep using it in my band. If the situation changes I will of course get in touch with you to see if you are still interested.

Thanks
Mike Livesley
Ok mike, ill give you sometime to see what exactly you want to do with the amp. The amp is really a gift for my son who is trying to create a studio, so please keep me in mind, because this amp would make him happy. Ill contact you another time. Also if you ever want to sell the amp and its still un-gigged with then please contact me first. If you change you mind mike, contact me because I will honestly will go through with the deal. The amp really means a lot to me. Thanks mike. We'll keep in touch.

Take care.

I didn't like the Emotional Blackmail and the suggestion that he would only be interested in it in un-gigged condition. Whatever that means.

He clearly doesn't understand Rock.

Throw him an emotional curveball and say you're using it to teach kids in Africa or something.

Hi mike my offer still stands for $1600, plus shipping and some extra for your labor. I just don't want the amp to get damaged by gigging so I am willing to work out a deal that will change your mind. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you're under the impression gigging entails, but it is quite possible to play gigs without destroying equipment - it is after all what these things were built to do

argh.

if you sell to him it's clearly going to get locked in a storage locker with his pile of 50s strats until he dies and leaves them to someone who will sell them. none of this balls about a studio.

if you buy a jcm800, are in a band and not an idiot of course you're going to rock it, i mean, its a jcm800.

He's proper beligerant, I didn't even reply to his last email. The "ungigged" aspect really pisses me off.

tell him you got angry at a gig and smashed it in and i'll 'shop a picture of it looking dented and bruised with ""PANTERA" written across the front in gaffer tape.

i'd love to see his reply.

To be fair, weren't you especially delighted with the immaculate condition of the amp when you bought it? Perhaps that delight would have been quelled if you'd found it had spent the last 27 years being chucked in and out of a tour bus, with all the minor damage that might entail.

I'm not defending the guy absolutely, and he does sound like an anoraky collector rather than a player, but I think that maybe the whole 'gigged' thing sometimes just refers to people just wanting gear that's in good shape.

I was surprised rather than delighted. The aesthetic of an amp doesn't mean much to me if it sounds good.
The real condition I was concerned with was the chassis, transformers, tube sockets, and internals, which as you can see from these pictures is all immaculate

He acts like he wouldn't be interested if it was played at a gig, which is retarded. He's also been badgering me about this without the slightest "come on" from my behalf.

The amp will never depreciate in value, and I like to think if I sold it, it would be to someone who was going to use it, barring some form of financial emergency.

It's a no brainer for me.... will only go up in value, that guy knows it, if you plan on keeping it even a few years you'll get more for it... plus the joy of playing it which is why you got it in the first place.

If you ever need to sell it you'll always be able to, I wish I had something to sit on like that rather than a ton of gear that is only going down day by day :D

Plus he sounds like a wanker

Yeah, it would have been handwired and assembled back in the day. I presume your Orange will be similar to a Marshall - bolts into the chassis from the base of the headcase.

Aye, me too. I have a late 70's OR 120 that I would like to have a peak at, but I dunno how to, and I'm way too scared of breaking it.

tell the guy you dropped it down the stairs and broke it if he keeps emailing you. say some smoke came out of it when you plugged it in so you broke it up for parts.

We had rehearsal last night, just three of us because Gareth is in Australia at the moment. The amp sounded brilliant again. I was using the high input for the songs that were varying levels of dirt all the way through with the Master on 4, and the low input with the Master on 6 for songs with clean and dirty parts, using the Dano Drive and Fuzz for those sections.

Sounded great. Definitely in no hurry to sell this. I'm going to go back to the 6100 for the next couple of practises to see how that shapes up in the 800's wake. I'm going to have to A/B them loud in the room at some point.

When I had some time to myself with Jon on the phone and John off getting cash I cranked it again. So Good.
