Refinishing and cleaning Q's - Not so much how as 'with what

Post by Dave »

Working on my Comp Orange Mustang project at the mo and I would like to clean up the 65 neck I have and I'm sure I saw a thread somewhere, possibly Offs*t (sorry Mike) where a member used a kind of light bleach spray over the whole neck and it really took off some grime and made the thing glow again. Anyone do this and what kind of stuff do you recommend?

Also, the neck has thin cracking along the first 5 frets. This doesn't impact the playability but is there a simple option for tidying this up a bit? Just a bit of filler and a light sand perhaps?

Lastly for the fret board - i used to have some kind of oil, possibly violin oil, that worked wonders on the rosewood board. Since then all I can find is lemon oil which seems much more of a cleaner than a conditioner... Can anyone recommend something they use that will really bring that dried wood back to life?

Let me know if pics of the neck would help and I'll be happy to do so!

Note to self: Must use more full-stops.
