Perhaps I'm being too sceptical, but the finish is too evenly aged to be genuine.

ALL CAPS MAKES MORE MONEY!
i agree, its too evenly yellowed to get og.
i would want to see some pots, some neck stamp action, and some under the guard shots.

It's also unusual for it to have a right-handed decal on the headstock. I thought the lefty's just had the "Fender" logo and nothing else?

I can believe the yellowing if it was owned by a smoker. I've seen 60s teles that were as orange as an orange from nicotine.
Lacquer breethes - it takes in all that stuff.

The RI's are like that, but the vintage ones have the full decal.

I just had another read
NECK STAMPED SEPT.16,1967.
If it said SEP1967 it would have either the A or B at the end of it, and before the September part it would have the model number. If I'm right in thinking the model number for a 24" Mustang is 8, it should say...
8SEP1967B
and 16 shouldn't come into it at all. I think the pencil neck dates may have included the day of the month, but I really can't see a 67 having a pencil date, I think they stopped doing that in 62/63.
The back of the guitar is far too evenly coloured. It should be a slightly different colour to the front and have patches of lighter colour. I think this is a refin that was done some time ago, long enough for it to look like an old finish. This guy probably brought the guitar refin'd and was told it was all original.
Shouldn't a 67 be a contoured body too? Too much about this guitar doesn't add up. It's not worth $1.5k that's for sure.

i have seen vintage lefty stangs with the full decal and partial decal.
i think it depends on who applied them and what years.
my pencil dated musicmaster neck just has the month and year.

Is that 10-60?
I don't think I've ever seen a pencil date later than 62 or maybe 63, it's got to have a stamp being a 67.

I think the contours were introduced in '69 with the Competition models, if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, contours weren't applied until 69.

Anybody feel like telling the seller all this stuff? There's a good chance that he has been mis-sold this and doesn't know himself.

I think it's more likely he'll just bark at your in all caps and with bad punctuation about the fact that it is 100% original.

I don't see anything to make me think it isn't og. He's not repeating the neck stamp verbatim, just typing what it means. My 67 DSII's neck date is stamped and includes the day of the month. Like so:

The neck stamp is a minor point that sounded a bit off. It sounds very reasonable that Fender would take a Duo neck and stick a Mustang decal on it.
The finish looks way off and is the bigger issue.
