Tiny Terror Dilemma

Post by avntzen »

ive been needing a new amp for ages now and as of recently, ive fell in love with them Tiny Terrorz.

My local guitar shop sells both the head AND the combo version, the one that comes loaded with that sexy G12H-30 speaker.

So my dilemma is which one should i get? Should i even have my eye on the TT in the first place?

If i choose the head, i was thinking of using the Epiphone Valve Junior cab which uses Lady Luck speakers, to conserve an already tight budget. But i feel its a mistake somehow. Am i better off with the combo?

Head Decision = $550 (head) + $160(cab) = $710
Combo = $800

(its my first post. dont kill me. i know its a newbz question.)

I think the Orange cab is nicer than the Epiphone, but obviously more expensive. However you could go for that eBay link ^ , buy it now is cheaper than the Head+Epi Cab new, and you could get it even cheaper if you bidded. Would be a good deal I think.

im pretty sure the TT combo has a speaker out.

I do like the head + cab setup mostly because its more flexible to transport than the combo.

but i still am conflicted sound-wise. Is it worth to pay the extra mile for improved sound?

that eBay TT is out of the question. My amp fund doesnt come in till two weeks.

Yr assuming the Orange cab sounds better then the Epiphone one. Why? There's no rational basis for assuming the more expensive cab/speaker will work better for your music.

the best thing you could do, honestly.
make sure you like the sound of the head, on more than 1 setup. if you like both sounds, by the head and take it home.
rock out accordingly.

Head for flexibility. Use the cab you have until you can afford a posh Orange one if that floats your boat. I imagine the heads will always hold a better retail than the combos anyway.

and when you have a head and a seperate cab, people think you are automatically cooler than you really are.

Plus so many times I've managed to save my back a serious injury by just carrying my TT in it's cute little case to somewhere where I can use someone else's cab or a house cab or something. You lose that Tiny Terror convenience as soon as you glue it to a speaker.

This is true. Plus if you need more volume, you can borrow/rent a 2x12 or 4x12 and be awesome.

lol @ this thread. The guy posts in a smaller than standard font presumably because it looks a bit better and neater. Then the first reply nukes the scroll bar.

If you can buy the head and the matching 1x12 cab for less than the combo, go that route. You could possibly even spend the change on getting dawnofzion to make you the surround (there's a thread about it somewhere, it makes the head look like a standard Orange head), or even go for the mini stack route and buy two of the 1x12 cabs.

Think of it this way, the possible plus points for going the combo route

- Ease of portability (one item to carry instead of two), although this is put up against the extra weight (you have to carry both items at the same time). With the amp being so small, it's a fairly small point either way.
- Cost. Combos are often cheaper. If that's not the case here it's obviously a plus point for the head and cab route.

On the head side, you have

- Flexibility. You can buy a different cab later on, or even a different head.

The other things to consider are the looks, and the resale value. The looks are obviously down to your opinion though many people prefer the look of the head + cab setup. You may not think you'll resell the amp, but it's often wise to go into any purchase like this knowing what you could get for it if you later change your mind.

I guess im going for the head setup then.

For various reasons i cant get my hands on an Avatar Cab, so an Epiphone Valve will have to do. Anyone have experience with Lady Luck Speakers?

And about the small font, i come from one of those artsy-fartsy forums where everyone does that. The habit kind just stuck. Now i realize such a thing wont really work in these forums :D

For obvious reasons? Have they stopped selling?

You're in the US (judging by the dollar sign in your first post) so I would have assumed it was no problem.

Past Issues with online ordering in general, and shipping. Past hassles. Looong story.

It'll sort itself out sometime in the future. By overall i cant buy things online as of now, or at the least, for several more months.

And im long overdue for a new amp. Really overdue.
