Russian big muff modded

Post by the isaac eaton »

So here is a demo of my creamy dreamer modded russian big muff. I really like it, I know billy corgan hates it, but i like it. I ran it through my cyber twin set all clean with the danelectro 59dc.

It also is modded to have true bypass and a 9Vdc jack on it too. And i flipped the circut board upside down so the pedal would run like a normal pedal with the outs on the left side and the ins on the right.

I was going to buy a cream puff actually instead of getting this and doing all the mods, i thought it would be a safer choice, but im glad i went out and did the russian big muff, but yeah, love the cream puff too.

how difficult is this mod to pull off? i have no experience modding, but i really like the way that sounds, and those black muffs arent hard to come by.

how do those sound pre-modded?

The mod is really fairly simple, so is making it true bypass. Here is some info on it Link!

also on mine, its not mentioned in the video but the circuit board is just flipped upside down so that the output is on the left, and the ins are on the right like a normal pedal, When you get them they come with the ins and outs reversed. Also after I flipped the board, there was much more room to put in the DC jack on the top.

Unmodded i like them a lot, they aren't as crazy and loud as the creamy dreamer. But they have a very smooth sound too them. really good for leads i think.

Fuzz sounds are of course, subjective. Mine is still stock, from when i bought it back in the early/mid 90s. They keep a lot of low end and are reasonably smooth. Great on bass guitar too.

This is the first decent demo soundwise of this pedal that I have heard.

Great demo, I like the turning the board over so the inputs are to right way round and the 9vdc jack ideas. But I prefer the stock (dark & heavy fuzz) sound. however this might have something to do with the crappy speakers I have to listen to stuff through at work I’ll have another listen at home.

I was talking about the tone when I described "soundwise" not audio quality. I dig Isaac's cause he demo'd it with a p-90, and that's my favorite pickup. All the other ones I heard so far had Fenders, most being Teles :? ...

what i love about the shortscale demos is that you guys actually play interesting riffs/chords/songs that suit the style of the pedal whereas most guys just play bluesy riffs no matter what pedal theyre using.

i look at this site a lot more than i post, but the demos are great
